e et et Tt = PUSH NEW HAVEN CRIMINAL ACTIONS Washington, Aug. 13.—At the de- partment of justice it was made clear that the action of the New Ha- ven railway directors in accepting terms which permit of presenting an agreed decree for dissolution of the merger to the federal court will not stay the plans for criminal proceed- ings under the Sherman law. The next move will be to bring up the civil case in the federal court in New York city. The option of the state of Massa- chusetts on the Boston and Maine stock is not affected by the agree- ment with the government. The sale of the stock is to be put in the hands of a board of trustees. WARSHIPS ENFORCE OUR NEUTRALITY Washington, Aug. 13.—All the big ships of the Atlantic battle fleet will be withdrawn from Vera Cruz and brought north by Sept. 1. Although it was said at the navy department that the movement of the ships has no connection with the European sit- uation government officials admit some of the vessels may be used in enforcing American neutrality in the European war. Secretary Daniels announced his in- tention to leave in Mexican waters only small craft capable of patrol duty or which necessarily may be ordered across the gulf to Dominican or Hai- tien waters. SEEKING TO BOOST AMERICAN COMMERGE | | New York, Aug. 13.—That J. P. Morgan & Co. and the National City bank are co-operating to advance American commerce i5 admitted. The National City bank will endeav- or to foster American trade to South America. Morgan & Co.. aided by other American financiers, will en- deavor to secure American registry for International Marine company’s ships, which are now hampered by be- Ing obliged to elude war vessels of he belligerents. GERMANS USE HEAVY ARTILLERY AT LIEGE London, Aug. 13.—While the Liege forts are holding out it is believed the German artillery fire is seriously damaging them. Siege guns of the heaviest: caliber are now known to have been brought up by the Ger- mans, who have restored their line of rail communication. That the allied French-British-Bel- gian army has been placed along the German frontier is considered cer- tain, but all information is refused, the general staff contenting itself with the statement that “important events impend.” It is believed here the Germans bhave decided to attempt to .carry through their original plan for the invasion ! France by way of Rrus- sels and Lille. Crossing the Meuse river to the north of lLiege the main German army is believed to be feeling out the Bel- gian defense line with cavalry.
