San Juan, Porto Rico, July 23.—The TUnited States revenue cutter Algon- quin arrived here from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, with 166 refu- gees, mostly Porto Ricans, on board. One woman died during the voyage from the effects of starvation. The condition of those remaining in Santo Domingo is reported to be pitia- ble, as it is almost impossible to ob- tain foodstuffs, the prices of which are prohibitive. REBELS RECEIVE MUNITIONS American Schooner Lands Shipment at Tampico. Laredo, Tex., July 23.—The Ameri- can schooner Emily P. Wright has landed at Tampico a shipment of munitions of war for the Constitu- tionalists. The schooner cleared from Galveston July 11 for Havana with 375 cases of small arm ammuni- tlon and 1,000 cases of rifies. It was noted on the schooner’s manifest that the munitions were to be trans- shipped. ROYAL PAIR IS ENGAGED Betrothal of Manuel’s Father-in-law and Bavarian King’s Daughter. Munich, Bavaria, July 23.—Official announcement was made of the be- trothal of Prince William of Hohen- zollern, father-in-law of former King Manuel of Portugal, to Princess Adel- gunde, eldest daughter of King Lud- wig of Bavaria. Prince William who is fifty years old, is a widower, his first wife hav- ing died in 1909. Princess Adelgunde is forty-four. Fire Causes $200,000 Loss. Prince Albert, Sask., July 23.—Fire start'ng from spontaneous combustion in the basement of the Manville Hard- ware company in the McKay & Adam block caused losses of $200,000. Hutchinson, forty-two years old, shot and killed his two daugh- ters, Lois, twelve years old, and Faye, ten years old, and then killed himself. He is believed to have been insane.
