Next- Tuesday Cupid is batting way below ~.300 in the Mill City. A study of the di- vorce records compared with the rec- ords of marriage licenses in Minneapolis indicate that one married . couple out of ev- ery eight seek the divorce courts. Three hindred and seventy- three divorces were granted in 1913 and 2, marriage licenses avere issued. This proportion unvaried since 1910. Only Two Turned Down. Only two members of the state sen- ate who sought renomination Tues- day were defeated, according to the complete list of nominees published in the twin city papers last night. They were Stebbins of Rothester and S. J. aug of Benson. Fros- haug was the lone Prohibition mem- ber of the last senate. He became prominent four years ago through the Farrington-Froshaug contest, which occupied the time of the senate several weeks. He then represented Swift and Big Stone counties. Under the reapportionment he ran in Swift and Kandiyohi. Thirty-four present senators sought renomination. There will be no lack of experienced leg- islators in the upper body, as there are a number of former: nators and house members running. Former sen- ators who are trying to come back are A. S. Campbell of Austin, J. W. Wright of Litchfield, J. T. Alley of juffalo and F. H. Peterson of Moor- head. Why Is It? Won't some one please tell us why it is that, here in Minnesota, when “Columbia the Gem of the Ocean” is played at a public gathering there Is no cheering, but when the st of “Dixie” float out over the assem- Dblage, hearty and spontaneous ap- plause follows, questions the Little Falls Transeript. Tiwice during the last week this fact has been observed. Also, why is it that American citi- zens are so slow _to ari when the “Star Spangled Banner" is publicly played? Have our national songs and emblems never been properly em- phasized in our national life? Do not the sight of the national emblem and the sound of the strains of the national songs meet with that almost voluntary response which should fol- low the sight and the sound indicated above? KKK K KKK KKK KKK KKK ¥ EDITORIAL EXPLOSIONS * TR KK KKK KKK KKK KKK Regardless of who wins or loses in any of the contests, Minnesota will keep right on growing and flourish- ing: You can't hold a good state back.—Fairmont Sentinel. —— The primary has been tried in both homeopathic and allopathic doses and results have been so indifferent that the body-politic is still far from being free of pain. The next legis- lature, it is safe to predict, will un- dertake a radical modification of the present statute. We are yet in the crudest stages of electoral reform.— Blue Earth Post. @ At the great national meeting of the Federation of Women’s Clubs in Chicago last week, after a spirited debate, a resolution was adopted de- claring “‘an earnest belief in the principle of political equality regard- less of sex.” This is the first time the organization has come out for woman suffrage, and shows the tre- mendous force of the movement. Minnesota must not lag behind. The next session of the legislature should let the people pass verdict upon the question.—Fairmont Sentinel.
