Tomorrow is the day we pay tribute to the dead soldiers. Another cause for happiness, the bass fishing season was legally open- ed today. In order that the employes of the Pioneer may be given an opportu- nity to properly observe Memorial day, tomorrow’s edition of the daily will go to press at noon. With the commencement exer- cises this evening comes the close of Bemidji’'s most successful school year. Bemidji has been fortunate in the selection of its school faculty, from the kindergarten teacher to the superintendent, and today the city stands out prominently as Dossess- ing one of the most thorough and complete educational institutions in Minnesota. The premium list for the 1914 state fair is now being distributed. It shows that more than $93,000 is to be spent for cash prizes, about $2,000 more than in 1913. In addi- tion to this amount nearly $2,000 is to be awarded in cups and trophies. The special days for the fair will be: Sunday, Music Day; Monday, Labor and Chilren’s Day; Tuesday, St. Paul Day; Wednesday, Minnesota Day; Thursday, Pioneer and Soldiers’ Day; Friday, Minneapolis Day; Sat-| urday, Automobile Day. | With one of the most attractive programs ever offered at a meeting of the Northern Minnesota Develop- ment association, the summer con-? vention will be held at Thief River| Falls next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The development associa- tion has accomplished much for the’ welfare of northern Minnesota and it is the duty of every man interested , in its continual progress and ad-: vancement to be in attendance. B= midji, the birthplace of the associa- tion, it being brought into existence here four years ago, should have a large delegation there. The meeting is certain to be interesting and ev-) erybody concerned is sure to profit. Special trains will bé operated be-! tween Bemidji and the convention city on each day of the summer meet- irg. On to Thief River Falls. i McCuaig Gaining Ground. ‘William McCuaig, the man who is} making good as mayor of Bemidji, and who is seeking the nomination for the office of register of deeds, is;| gaining considerable ground in the country districts, according to re- ports from men who take special in- terest in elections. Mr. McCuaig is a capable man for this office and should be given' an opportunity to serve the county in this capacity. | From practically every district re- vorts indicate that those who sup- ported Moon against Harris, are lin- ' JOHNSON ASBSra iR e for ‘GUBTAVUS JOHNBON : booklet. 70 South 11th Street. {SEND YOUR HATS to be Cleaned, Dyed, —— No voter in Minnesota at the com- ing primaries should cast his vote for a candidate for the legislature, for governor or any other state of- fice, who has not suarely, emphatic- ally and wholeheartedly indorsed the proposed plan of the state commis- sion for a re-organization of the administrative departments, includ- ing the budget system and civil ser- vice.—Duluth News Tribune. —_—— Stand back of the président! Why not? He is not only president, but a remarkable one as well. He is not a partisan, he is not a weakling, ke is not a failure. He is a man, giv- ing his manhood, his best efforts and his life’s work to the ‘people of the United States. He is simple and honest. ‘Stand back of him. Why, of course. The man who refuses to do so is not a good citizen. We should be thankful that we have ‘him, the firm, simple and sincere man, with his strong hand on the helm at this hour of danger. He will not falter. If he makes a mis- take it will not be from the heart. —Le Sueur News.
