A. Du- poll a strong vote, T. J. Sharkey, ‘Bull Mooser, and Otto M. Thompson, Soclalist. As the primaries draw near Maxfield’s nomination seems to be more and more a certainty, and his election is sure to follow. He is making a strong and manly campaign for the seat, and his list of supporters {8 continually growing. A. G. Rutledge, secretary of the Northern Minnesota Development as- sociation, is accused of bringing politics within the ranks of the as- sociation, because in a letter to a few of his friends he mentioned and endorsed the candidacy of Jacobson, in his race for the railroad and ware- house commission, according to ©Charlie Cheney, of the Minneapolis Journal. But few members of the as- soclation will take exception to the letter of “Doc,” for they believe that ‘his effort in behalf of Jacobson was merely a personal one, and that he ‘has utterly no intention to make use of the society for political purposes. There is no better a booster or a more tireless worker than “Doc” Rutledge. Mixing Politics and Religion. Religion and politics are two wide- ly different things and they should never be mixed, but, nevertheless, Bols, a Democrat, who is expected to | come the tug of wa Unfon; 5 The tendency of: the times is. to discriminate against the average|. man, especially in matters polmoal’ The political faddists of the qu wmre| - advocating everywhere government by commissions appointed by some- ‘body, instead of government by rep- resentatives elected by the average men and responsible to them.—Sauk Center Herald. —— Some- of the pamphlets and circu- lars sent out by reformists to the :u: boys and- girls for the purpose of in- spiring high moral standards in sex hygiene matters, are the very things | that will awsken in those minds thoughts just the contrary to what these would-be theorists are so de- sirous of promoting, says the Prince- ton Union. It is a delicate matter to say the least, and though a very proper subject for consideration, it is a2 matter that should be taken care of by the mothers and fathers of these young people. Some of these printed circulars now being sent broadeast over the land should e prohibited the.use of the mails.— Stillwater Gazette. It is quite a modish thing now to wear a vest of white pique with thc tailored suit; it is better, however, to make the vest separate, so that it may be removed and washed without too much inconvenience. To make this coat in size 36, 1% yards of 42-inch material is needed. Pattern cuts in six sizes, 32 to 42. This is a Perfect Pattern. Be sure to give right size, measur- ing over the fullest part of the bust What mend it, You can they sometimes are. -General re- sults are seldom affected, but some few individuals who by a laborious pprocess of reasoning have reached the conclusion that a man’s politics is affected by his religion, seem to derive a good deal of satisfaction by convineing themselves ‘that they really are: Religious prejudice is present in praétically every coni- munity. It is born of ignorance, fed upon prejudice and reaches the ulti- mate stage of dissolution because it and cannot endure in the light of reason or the experience of sane, un- prejudiced thinkers, says Tom Moo- die in the Virginia Enterprige. If half the dire calamities had over- taken the country at large that have lbeen predicted by zealots -of all creeds, who are convinced'that other men of other denomination in pri- vate and public life were swayed and influenced solely by a confession of faith and willing to go to any extreme because of it, the world would be a place altogether frightful. People who foster and mouth the mistaken convicitions of religious -prejudice do themselves a grave in- justice. They do the communities in which they live no good, but they effectually succeed in destroying the faith of many unsophisicated hu- mans in their fellow men.
