G. Slocum will oppose Judge Clark,” says the Tenstrike Tribune. Judge Slocum once before attempted to wrest the office from the judge of probate but without success.- Should Judge Clark seek re-election, his ma- jority will be large, no matter who his opponent may be. At the meeting of the state board of pardons three prisoners 'were granted their freedom, the sentences of ten were commuted and the ap- Plications of forty-three denieq out right. Eighty five 'cases were on the calendar, and all but thirty were digposed of. The application of Henry Schmidt and wife for a re- lease was not acted upon. They are serving terms in the state prison for having shot and killed Deputy Sheriff McCabe of Cass county, while he was in the act of placing them under ar- rest on numerous charges. The crime was committed three years ago and the release of either Schmidt or his wife would meet with much- disap- proval in this section of the state. Will Provide Pure Seed 0. 1. Bergh, agronimist of the Northwest experiment farm at Crookston, formerly agriculturist in the Bemidji public schools has is- sued the following notice concern- ing the distribution of pure seed: “A report blank will be furnished by the N. W. Experiment Station to any person wishing to get pure grain for seed. Shipment will not be made by the station until a report blank No. 1 is returned properly filled out relative to kind of soil and crop his- tory of field where the seeq will be used. Not less than 10 1bs. nor more’ than 30 1bs. will be shipped to one person of any one variety. Any person may get one variety of one or more of the following grains: (1) Winter Wheat, (2) Macaroni, (3) Spring Wheat, (4) Barly Oats, (5) Late Oats, (6) Barley, 6 row, (7) Speltz, (8) Barley, 2 row, (9) Flax. The grain will be shipped by the Experiment Station only upon re- deipt of Dblank filled out properly and money order or draft, equal to value of grain at 5 cents per pound plus postage except when shipped by expresa collect.” HH XK KKK KK KKK K KK * EDITORIAL EXPLOSIONS * EREK K KKK KKK KK KKK J. F. Rosenwald of Madison is a candidate for the Republican nom- ination for railroad and warehouse commissioner to succeeq C. F. Staples. Rosenwald is disposed to be favor- able to the .people as. against the rajlroads, though it seems that a man ought to be able to be fair to the people without becoming an enemy of the railroads.—Brecken- ridge Telegram. ) —— So Congressman Hammond will toss his hat into the gubernatorial ring and try conclusions in the Dem- ocratic primaries with Dan Lawler, Mr. Hammond, in reaching such a decision, virtually admits that Sen- ator Haycraft has already won the congressional fight against him in the Second district. Dhis being true, Mr. Hamming has much to gain and nothing to lose in making the race for governor.—Browns Val- ley Tribune, . —o— ‘The Democratic convention at St. Paul nominated Congressman Ham- mond for governor, and the nominee accepts the honor, and will make the race. Mr. Hammond is no doubt the strongest man in the Minnesota Dem- ocracy, and if he cannot wrest the office from: Governor = Eberhart, there is no use of anygne else trying. The fight in the election will be in- teresting, as both Hammond and Eberhart ‘are whales in'the political sea, and ithere will ‘be great splash-| ing. There are some other candidates, but the real fight will be between Hammond and Bberhart.—Heron 1d to anonymous con- |- . | Binghamton, N. There is a four-picce skirt Wwith a diagonal lap in front to match the closing of the blouse. This little dress could be effectively devcloped in one of these bright poplins with collar and the inset pieces on blouse and skirt of a rosefigured moire.
