FIERY FLOOD IS STILL FLOWING Japanese Yolcano Continues Violent Eruption. LOSS OF LIFE UNKNOWN @overnment Officials Admit Anything Like a 8tatement of the Casualties Would Be Mere Guess Work Until Devastated District Can Be Explored. Tokio, Jan. 15.-—Estimates of the oss of life in the Kiushyu volcano Alsaster are still impossible, the gov- lernment admitting that anything like e« statement of the casualties would be mere guess work. That thousands are dead is the gen- eral belief. Sakurashima volcano continued in violent eruption, according to wireless dispatches from the naval detachment sent to the scene of the catastrophe. Kagoshima city is entirely deserted and practically destroyed. The commander in charge of the naval squadrons said ashes lay over the city from six inches to a foot in thickness. Dwellings, public build- ings, shops and manufacturing plants were burned. Volcanic rocks hurled into the air by the blazing mountain fell on Kagoshima and completed the destruction which the fire began. The little island in the bay that once was Sakurashima is nothing but a mass of angry flame, out of which pours lava, white rocks and ashes. The ashes are falling over the LAST TROOPS LEAVE COPPER STRIKE ZONE Ranks of Miners. Houghton, Mich., Jan. 14.—For the first time since the beginning of the copper miners’ strike last July state troops are not patroling the trouble zone, the last company of militia hav- ing left the district. Several of the guardsmen announced before leaving that they intend to return to take service with the mining companies as mounted policemen. Because of the cold weather which bhas prevailed in this district for the last two days and because of fresh eviction suits and a further break in the ranks of the union men strike entire countryside as far east as Osaka. Huge fissures have appeared in the earth. A slight tidal wave caused by the shocks accompanying the erup- tlon swept the coast of Kyushu. The naval commander made no es- timate of the logs of life, saying it would be impossible until an explora- tion of Sakurashima, Kagoshima and the surrounding territory was made. Kagoshima is protected from looters by. patrols of police and troops. Ali Americans who were in the vi- cloity are safe. Word to this effect has been received here from Carl F. Deichman, the American consul at Nagasaki, who telegraphed as fol- lows: “A private telegram states that Americans in Kagoshima fled to Sen- dal, near Kagoshima. All safe.” REFUGEES TELL OF DISASTER Declare Loss of Life in Earthquake Will Be Appalling. Miyazaki, Japan, Jan. 15.—A party of refugees from the stricken island of Sakura has arrived here. IF KIDNEYS ACT BAD TAKE SALTS Says Backache is a sign you have been eating too much meat which forms uric acid. When you wake up with backache and dull misery in the kidney region it generally means you have been eating too much meat, says a well- known authority. Meat forms uri acid which overworks the kidneys in their effort to filter it from the blood and they become sort of paralyzed and loggy. When your kidneys get slug- gish and clog you must relieve them, like you relieve your bowels; remov- ing all the body’s urinous waste, else you have backache, sick headache, dizzy spells; your stomach sours, tongue is coated, and when the wea- ther is bad you have rheumatic twinges. The urine is cloudy, full of sediment, channe's often get sore water scalds and you are obliged to seek relief two or three times during the night. Either consult a good, reliable physician at once or get from your pharmacist about four ounces of Jad Salts; take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast for a few days and your kidneys will then act fine. This famous salts is made from the acie of grapes and lemon juice, combineq with lithia, and has been used for generations to clean and stimulate sluggish kidneys, also to neutralize acids in the urine so it no longer frritates, thus ending bladder weakness, Jad salts s a life saver for regu- lar meat eaters.
