THIS PAPER REPRESENTED FOR FOREIGN - ADVERTISING BY THE GENERAL OFFICES NEW YORK AND CHICAGO BRANCHES IN ALL THE PRINCIPAL CI'TIES Advertising is not a remedy to be taken only at critical times, but a nourishment to be taken regularly. —Twin City Bulletin. ‘When your backward business man hears of some new plan for increas- ing his profit that requires a litile enterprise—and it always does—he calls in impractical and thinks that settles it. Protect the skunk is a recommen- dation issued in @ bulletin by Secre- tary of Agriculture Wilson and gives as his reason that the animal eats so . many insects a farmer does mot want on his place. Mr. Wilson will have a hard time stirring up an argument with the farmers on the skunk pro- blem. We all respect the skunk. Brainerd’s proposed new chartar was turned down by a majority of more than 100 votes. The election had caused a lot of interest at the Crow Wing county seat and the Brainerd Despatch explains the de- feat by saying the main reason was because the charter had been “mis- represented, lack of knowledge re- garding the measure and the activity of office holders under the present administration who were in fear of losing tlteir jobs if the new charter was voted in.” Open Letter ' Gentlemen—We see by the Bem- idji papers that you are preparing to| stage your annual four flush, called the Beltrami fair. Now please don't misunderstand us. We have no de- sire to knock your fair and we be- lieve it is as good as the one we hold in Baudette once a year, but you can take jt from us that it is derned near time that you are getting ad- jacent to the fact that Beltrami Bemidji’s Only county extends north of Blackduck. In looking over your list of officers and directors, nary a one do we find from the mnorthern part of the county, and we were just wondering if you knew there was such a place. For the love of Mike, boys get busy and recognize the fact that you ar2 not the whole cheese. At any rate if you do not #are to give us represen- tation on the board, you should -at least change the name of your out- fit to the Southern Beltrami County fair. Unless you do one or the other we shall feel justified in applying the word “four flush” to it.. ! ‘We would like to remind you that you sent an alleged’Beltrami coun- ty exhibit to the state fair last year and that it carried off second prize among the counties of the state. 1t was great work and we wish to ex- tend you the glad hand on your suc- cess, and to add that if you had ia- cluded the products of this meck’of the woods in your exhibit Beltrami would have carried off the blue rib- bon instead of the red. You may deny this until you are purple in the face, but such an eminent authority as Dean Woods is responsable for the opinion, and believe us he is some pumpkin when it comes to farming. Wishing you a happy new year, we are Yours truly, THE REGION. It has been suggested since this violent out burst on the part of Bau- dette’s congenial Irish mewspaper editor that he be elected to life mem- bership (honorary) of the Beltrami County Fair Board. “Bill’s” worthy the honor alright.
