EXCEEDS FORMER RECORD Payments for 1913 More Than Double That of 1912, When Over $51,000, 600 Was Paid to Stockholders—Dis- bursements Greater Than Those of the Billion-Dollar Steel Corporation. New York, Nov. 21.—Recenc iarge dividend declarations by former sub- sidiaries of the Standard Oil com- »any of New Jersey again draw at- tention to the prosperity of this &roup of companies. Cash dividends declared so far this year by Standard 0il concerns have amounted to more than $111,000,000, equivalent to more than 111 per cent on the capitaliza- tion of the former parent corpora- tion. This compares with 40 per cent Paid by the New Jersey company for half a dozen years previous to the disintegration. As several companies have still to declare their final dividends for the year the total payments for 1913 will exceed the $111,000,000 mark by a considerable margin. i Disbursements to Standard Oil shareholders this year exceed the United States Steel corporation’s an- nval dividends by something like $€0,000,000 and are from $30,000,000 to $35,000,000 in excess of the Steel corporation’s annual interest and div- 1dend payments combined. ‘'his does not include numerous' ‘stock divi- dends distributed this year. Chicago, Nov. -21.—Only the ques- tion of their ability to endure the strain of the work on election and rrimary days is said to stand in the way of the appointment of women voters as judges and clerks of elec- tions in this city. ' The women may be permitted to decide the question for themselves. County Judge Owens, who under the law must determine the question finally, is said to hold that women are placed on the same basis with men at polling places under the pro- visions of the equal suffrage act pass- ed by the last general assembly. Judge Owens has asked the advice of the principal women’s organiza- tions of the city, both political and social, and will meet their represen- tatives next Monday.
