There is no denying the fact that state gov- ernment should be reorgonized and useless bureaus and departments abolished. This is an issue which will appeal to the tax payers of the state. It is a subject which they can be readily understood and which effects everybody’s _pocket.—Mora Times, Times (Rep.) The writer of the above, Hon. Henry Rines, was Speaker at the last session of the Legislature, and, as such, exercised a powerful influ- ence in shaping legislations. The pre- sent increase in the State tax rate is due to lavish apprations, which the YSpeaker might have controlled. It is evry true that “the issue in 1914 should be a greater economy and bet- ter business management in State af- fairs,” but it does not appear to us that speaker Rines is in a position to ralse that banner. It is correctly be- lieved®in political circles- that Mr. Rines ‘aspires to the State Auditor- ship, or; possibly, something higher up, but is he the Richmond to lead the reform forces? -, i For whatever reckless expenditure of money was made at the late ses- slon, Speaker Rines is more respon- sible than any other member of eith- er house—Iindeed, he might have controlled appropriations.— St. Cloud Times. — It is-understood that a Mr. Mc- Carthy, an attorney in Grand Rapids is golng to be candidate for district judge in opposition to Judge Wright, of Park Rapids, at the next election. If he stays in the ring believing ne can beat Judge Wright, he will find he has judged wrong.—La Porte News. ¢ —— The Menagha Journal wants some real Republican to get in the field as candidate for congress in this dis- trict. ‘What's the matter with Old Man Kelley? There is none better.— Journal Jress. —_—— In Canada much importance is at- tached to the fact that whatever Harry Thaw’s failings in other direc- tions may be, he does not play penny ante.— Cass County Pioneer. —— A new instrument just invented will register just how drunk a man 43, We know a good many in bau- dette wko will “bat” over 300.— Baudette Pigion.
