The earnestness® with which our buying public have been ‘“‘going after’’ these piano votes more than makes good our prophecy that it would be a ‘‘merry strife.”’ ' This novel ad- vertising campaign, the ever increasing crowds, the many splendid values which they are offering daily has made their name ahousehold name and a mecca for the bargain lovers of this community. W. G. Schroederis to be congratulated upon the thoroughness of his business foresight and ‘the citizens of Bemidji should feel that they have all reason to be proud of the fact of having an establishment conducted upon such liberal and true business principles within our gates. The advices are that there was a slaughter of 175 Span- iards in the city. The dispatches come from Maderia, midway between Tor- reon and Saltilla. The. evacuation of the city of Tor- reon by federal troops was confirmed by Manuel Garza Aldape, minister of the interior, who declared that Gen- eral Trucy Aubert, the federal ccm- mander, with Generals Mungmia, Ignacio Bravo and Escudero, is now at Hipolito, near Saltillo. The Ilatter three commanders, according to the minister of the interior, are to under- go courtmartial for the ‘evacuation of Torreon. The report that General Aubert has gone over to the rebels is generally discredited here. General Gustavo Maas has been re- called from the border to co-operate with General Lauro Villar, who left Mexico City with 400 federal soldiers for Torreon. Confirmation of the execution by the rebels at Torreon of General Al- virez with his staff and a number of federal soldiers, has been-received by the war department l’rom unofficial sources, General Alvirez had started for Du- rango when he was: defeated and his artillery captured by the rebels. PICKET BAN BRINGS PEACE Supreme Court’s Action Renewl;)q In- Jjunction. Calumet, Mich., Oct. 10.—The effect of the continuance by the state su- preme court of Circuit Judge O’Brien’s injunction against picketing by copper mine strikers was evident in the ab- sence of disorder of any kind. There was no picketing anywhere in}. . the district, although parades, permit- ted under the injunction, were held. Four men are now held by Sheriff Cruse in. connection with the killing of Joseph Pollock, Jr., a deputy sher- iff, by supposed strike sympathizers at Hurontown. A brother-in-law of Jo- seph Manerich, who was shot in the stomach by Pollock during the attack on the deputy sheriff, was arrested. Were Being Held for Ransom by Chinese Bandits. M Peking;, Oct. 10.—The foreign mis- sionairies, American and Norwegian, who have been in the hands of the bandits at Tsaoyang,” have been res- cued. According to the advices re- ceived here they have not been in- | jured. The captives included Rev. George Holm and Rev.” Herman [] Fauske and his wife and child. They were being held for ransom, but Tsaoyang was surrounded by gov- ernment forces and an attempt by the bandits to break through the cordon | had already been repulsed. EXPECTS TO REPEAL CLAUSE Lack of Quorum Prevents Agtion on 5 Per Cent Differentials. ‘Washington, Oct. 10.—Repeal of the 5 per cent differential clause of the new tariff law, against which many foreign nations have protested gener- ally and threatened retaliation against the United States, was lined up for passage by congressional leaders, but was blocked temporarily by the fight to get a working quorum in the house. The reason for the second economy is the light weight, the low fuel consumption producing ample power for all requirements and the mechanical ex- cellence which practically eliminates repair bills, 20 to 21 miles on a gallon of gasoline is not uncom- mon and eight to ten thousand miles on one set of tires is the rule rather than the exception, To sum up, the K-R-I-T is the car that gives you verfect service continuously at lowest cost. ‘When we selected the K-R-I-T from the dozens of lines on'ered us, it was our judgment, ripened by 18 years’ experience in selling automobiles in the Northwest, that told us, after searching investiga- tions that 1t'is the one best bet in $900 cars. Economical in last cost because the maintenance of car is far below the average in its class. The reason for the first economy is the fact that the K-R-I-T is BUILT complete by and within one organization—every essential part made in the K-R-I-T plant. The savings in parts-makers’ profits make possible the extra value—the high quality, the addition of $1800-car features.
