TRY A WANT AD SPAIN There is a Spanish proverb that says, “Whom God favors he gives a house in Seville.” The privilege of living in that bright, gay city is' con- sidered by a Spaniard to be the height of happiness. Other cities are larger, wealthier, or more important politically than Seville; but none holds a higher place in the hearts of the Spanish people. When in the beginning of the fif- teenth century the old cathedral was damaged by an earthquake, a meet- ing was held to discuss what should be done to restore it. Then one propos- ed that, instead of repairing the old church, they should built a new edi- ‘flce larger and more magnificent than had ever been imagined. They plan- who saw it wonder at the daring of those who began it. What the public funds would not supply they agreed to furnish out of their own purses. It took only 117 _years to build, which is a short time as old cathed- rals go. After St. Peter’s'at Rome and the Mezquita at Cordova, it is the largest church in the world. It is 414 feet long, 271 feet wide, and 100 feet high to the top of the nave. The immense pillars, as you look down the church between them, the thickness of reeds. Many another cathedral could stand inside the nave of this one. There are numerous churches in the city, most of the older ones built on the foundations of mosques. The church of La Caridad has a strange legend connected with it. Don Miguel de Manara, the founder, had been a profligate in his youth, a sort of Don Juan, and was known far and wide for his excesses. At last he met a funeral procession, and stop- ping one of the bearers inquired who it was that they were taking to jeternal rest at such an hour. “Don Miguel de Manara,” he re- iplied. Greatly surprised at hearing his own name, Don Miguel uncovered the face and saw there his own features. The processio immediately vanished; but left him so deeply impressed that he turned religious and built a church and a hospital. | | i PRACTICAL HEALTH HINT. The Feet. * Pumice stone used frequently keeps the skin of the feet smooth. It is especially neces- sary on the heel and on the ball of the foot, where the weight of the body rests in walking. Never cut the toe nails too short, as they are move likely to become ingrown. Washington Irving's great treaty tree at Sleepy Hollow, in the Philipse Manor section, lost its last three leaves recently. Tourists and visitors have noted with much concern for over a year that it was dying. It is twenty feet in circumference at its base. It had bravely withstood the disease that has destroyed most of the chestnut trees throughout the east. and it is probably the last to die in the Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown sections. This monarch of the forest is known in history as the tree under which the-| £ last treaty was made between the |32 whites and Wequasqueek Indians. TUnder its romantic shade also Irving f wrote his famous *“The Headless Horseman,” with - Philipse Manor. Although the treaty tree is practical- ly dead, it will not be felled and de- stroyed like hundreds of its fellows there. It is to be preserved. and long trailing flowering vines have been planted about its base to cover it com- pletely in the future. It stands almost in the center of the Philipse Manor property. ¢lose to the Hudson river, in full view from Broadway or the old Albany post road.—Tarrytown News. But wait until you investigate. The K-R-I-T is a $900 car in price only. from the average $900 car. Once you grasp the significance of the K-R-I-T idea in building a car complete in one plant, in- stead of assembling it from parts bought from other manufacturers, just then you will understand why a K-R-I-T can be compared with $1500 cars, just how it can be sold for $900. Following are the facts—a partial analysis of K-R-I-T value. own conclusions: Materials and Workmanshin. The K-R-I-T Company not only design the motor —they make it; cast the cylinders in one piece to give rigidity and preserve alignment; equip it with_ ball bearings and with connecting rod bearings 50 per cent larger than usual, to promote smooth run- ning, silence and the greater development of power. They make the clutch of multiple disca—a clutch that holds, and holds, and holds in sand and mud and on hills; and yet starts the car as smoothly and easily as an electric glides away. oL 9y They make the transmission and real axle, cut the gears from chrome nickel steal—thé bhardest’ and costliest metal known—and mount them on ball ‘ bearings.
