Sathre returned from Wilton today where he has spent the past few days on business. Mrs Sathre and baby did not return with him but will spend the week end as the guests of friends. Mr. Sathre will join them Saturday. An ice cream. social will be given by Band No, 2 of the St. Philip’s church, Tuesday evening, August 21, on Fred Rhoda’s lawn. Yesterday afternoon the 17 months baby of Mr. and Mrs. David Gill took suddenly ill with convulsions and for several hours was in a critical condi- tion. Dr. E. H. Smith was called and rendered immediate medical aid. The childs reported much better this morning. Mrs, R. F. Murphy and son Ray mond returned home from St. Paul this morning where they have spent the past three weeks as the guests of Mrs Murphy’s sister Mrs. M. McCor- mick. While away they also visited ‘White Bear Lake. Miss Margaret Lowham returned to her home in Crookston yesterday afternoon after spending the past two days as the guest of Miss Gertrude Malone.. Miss Lowham will return to Bemidji in the course of the next two weeks as she has accepted a posi- tion ‘as third and fourth grade teach- er in the North school for the com- ing term. SHOOTS WIFE AS THEY KISS Edmonton (Alta.) Man Accldentally Kills Spouse, Bdmonton, Alta, Aug. 21.—F. W, Cox, manager of John Walter's mills, accidentally shot and instantly killed his wife a5 heleaned forward to kiss her, prior to a proposed drive through the -city with her sister. Cox had been on a short vacation and was cleaning an automatic revol ver when' his wife came in. Mrs. Cox stepped into the room in which her husband was at work to kiss him goodby. It appears that the husband, still clutching the revolver in his hand, put his arm around his wife's neck and the revolver in some manner was discharged, the ball entering the base of the skull. Mrs. Cox fell dead in her husband’s arms. PAWNBROKERS DENY STORY Say McDermott Was Not Even Asked to Oppose Bill. ‘Washington, Aug, 21.—The house lobby investigating committee con- tinued to probe the statement of I. H. McMichael, one tiine chief page of the house, that Representative James T. MeDermott of Illinois had been given $7,500 to work against & “loan shark” bill for the District of Colum- bia, by pawnbrokers affected by the bill. Two of the three brokers who con- tributed to a fund to be used against the bill denied that Mr.. McDermott had even been .asked to oppose its passage. X They swore they raised about $3,750 for use in the employment of attor- neys and for presenting printed argu- ments to' congressmen.
