After a couple of weeks in this “mixture” the fish are transferred to another bath composed of iron and tan, which has the effect of coloring them red or black and red, or black, red and sil- ver—according to the time they are left in the solutions. These fish fetch a better price than the ordinary sil- verfish, found in large quantities in that region, but it is remarked that 8o far they die young.
