It appears that-ane of the reasons the Minneapolis Civic and Commerce association is' not exerting itself to back the Northern Minnesota Devel- opment association and its exhibit room in Minneapolis is the lack of publicity which the-exhibit-has had. No criticism "of the exhibit has been raised but the Minneapolis men say few know of it. To get this -publicity, why not not have a “Made in Minnesota,” or “Grown- in -Minnesota” week on the plan of the recent “Made in Minneap- olis” week which proved so-success- ful. The hotels; restaurants, rail- roads and other public interests could be lined up to back the project and the -results from: the advertising would be tremendous. The Northern Minnesota . association -could combine with those from the other “sections and the three give the state some of the best advertising it has ever had. Liberal in other things, the legis- lature has added only $10,000 to the appropriation for the state immigra- tion commissioner. It also kill- ed the bill providing for a depart- ment of public domain which would take the state lands out of the hands of the auditor and free them from the spoils system. With such a con- dition to prevail for at least two more years, the state must look to the development associations for its best advertising. Northern Minnesota, the state, the cities, and the business interests all want results. Why is the United States furnishing a third of the Western Canada immigrants when many would stop in Minnesota if they knew of the cheap and fertile lands here? We have the exhibits. A ‘Made and Grown' in Minnesota” week, based upon the Minneapolis plan, backed by all of Minnesota-as well as Minneapolis, and featuring these exhibits will make some of those who. have the western fever stay here. ' The spring rush will soon be at its height. Action must be taken at once if the idea is worth anything. Mutton as a Food. Following the announcement from Washington that the department of agriculture has publishéd a book in which every known way to_ prepare mutton for the table is described, the South St. Paul Daily Reporter, a live- stock trade paper, comes to the front with the fact that not a single case of tuberculosis was found last year in any of the millions of sheep and lambs killed and federally inspected. Says the Reporter: s “Federal inspection of the many million head of sheep and lambs re- ceived at thg various live' '$06K mark- éting ‘tenters last year failed to dis - dlose & sifigle case of thberculosis, a dircumstance which constitutes’a ‘tre- thendous argumerit in fovor of the in- c'rea, sed ue of this class of stock. as 4 Source of meat supply for the tables' of American homes. ‘In ‘these days| when emphasts is being placed most strongly upon the desirahlmy ot pure f00d products and ‘their necessity to e preservauon nnd hetterm it - of the natinnu .health, none nhouxd 08 ers who will invest a little in sheep. tomd to hlsh levelu by the scarcity. ot cattlo and hqgs there s reuon to| expect an increased conlumption of | ment mutton in American homes. It well deserves more general atten- tion by the ultimate consumers of the country.” . Northern Mjnnesota is a natural breeding ground for sheep and with the increased consumption which is sure to come the price will go -up, thereby making money for the farm- He Never Was An Editor. A Superior minister declared Sun- day that the modern man does not think for himself any more than his brother did 1,000 ‘years ago. The minister maintained that he bought his opinions from the mewspaper at two cents a day. If that minister ever takes the job of editor he will find that every reader, man, woman and child, has a separate and distinct opinion of his own. Moreover, they never hesitate to tell the editor what that opinion is. 7 THE DISCIPLE OF DEATH. walk on glass and other smooth _sur- faces. Its wings and hairs that cover it are frequently laden with germs. The germs of typhoid fever are given off in great numbers in the discharges- of patient: Flies often feed on this mat Their feet and bodies become smeared with germs. The insect car them into' the dining room and deposits them on the bread that some one is about to or washes them off in the milk into which it may fall The germs of tuberculosis are given off in large numbers in the sputum of patients.- Flies gain ac to this sputum and may leave it loaded ‘with «h. germs of consumption. Dysentery. and “infantile diar- rhea are carried in the same D bearing is by no to the intestinal germ disease, ‘however. |t is said that ophthalmia or blind- ness, smallpox and other of the better known communicable dis- eases have been traced to the fly. ~ Where actual laboratory ¢ proof does not exist circum- stantial evidence is very strong. One investigator estimated the number of germs on a single fly, and his stud led him to place the figures at 6,600,000. EX YT The Example of Bavaria, In Bavaria they do not have to cry “Swat the fily!" because they keep their premises so clean that flies do not have a chance to live and breed.
