Full credit should be given the al- dermen for this movement and those who believe in it should freely express themselves to their representatives. The Nelson Bill. The only real objection that has been voiced against the Nelson bill is the fact that the bill would cut the number of saloons to the required limit by forcing city councils not to renew licenses as fast as they expired. Thus no opportunity was given for the weeding out of the worst saloons but the last eleven licenses granted would be the.-ones to stand. The senate temperance committee has seen this objection and has draft- ed a substitute bill which provides for a gradual reduction of the num- ber of saloons until the limit of one to 500 is reached. This substitute bill will be drafted by a sub commit- tee and will be reported out in a few days. The Band Concert. About two hundred people last night attended one of the best band concerts ever given in the city of Be- midji. So crowded was the city hall that many were forced to stand dur- ing the concert. It was the largest audience that ever attended an indoor band concert in Bemidji. C. J. Woodmansee sang “The Pirate Chief” and was so well encored that he responded with a love ballad. Mr. Woodmansee was accompanied by Di- rector Remfrey and appeared in ex- cellent voice. Miss Vera Backus read “A Scene in a North England Rail- way Station” and her impersonations of the different characters involved drew a burst-of applause as she fin- ished. She responded with the ex- periences of a father and three year old son at 2 a. m. The band men feel encouraged as this is the first time that a winter concert has-ever received more tham passing attention from the public. The men last night harmonized bet- ter than ever before in the history of the organization and the general ex- cellence o fthe music was a pleasant surprise to those who attended. About a year later my husband was affected with a severe attack of kidney trouble and doctore for some time with the doctors and received no benefit. Knowing of the good 1 had received, he decided to try Swamp-Root. His condition was such that he was confined to his bed and words cannot tell how he suffered, but after taking Swamp-Root he was relieved so he could go on with his work without pain. I wish to hearti: ly recommed Swamp-Root to all per- sons afflicted with kidney and blad- der troubles and you may publish this letter if you wish. Yorus truly, —MRS.A. E. BRIGGS, ‘ Eldred, Pa.
