Brotherhood. Once, so runs the legend, there lived in far: Judean. hills two. affec- tlonate brothers, tilling a common farm together. One had a house and wouseful of children; the other Wwas a lonely man. One night in the harvest time, the older brother said to his wife: “My brother is a lonely man. I will go out and move some of the sheaves from my side of the fleld over on his, 80 that when he sees them in the morning his heart will be cheered by the abundance.” And he did. That same night the other brother said to his workmen: “My brother has a houseful and many mouths to fill. Iam alone, and do not need all this wealth. I will go and move some of my sheaves over on his field, 80 that he shall rejoice in the morn- ing when he sees how great is his store” And he did. And they did it that night and the next, in the sheltering dark. But on the third night the moon came out as they met face to face, each with his arms filled with sheaves. On that spot, says the legend, was built the Temple of Jerusalem, for it was esteemed that there earth came nearest heaven.—Jacob Riis in the Outlook, On Building a Silo. The department of agriculture has sent out a bulletin, which was approved by Secretary Wilson, on “How to Build a Stave and Cement Silo.” The bulletin declares that a silo of ten feet in diameter is the proper size for a herd of twelve cows. To determine the height, the bulletin says to first determine the number of tons the silo must hold. Thirty or forty pounds of sil- age per day should be fed cows when they are getting no other green feed and the number of tons fed per year can be determined by the. length of the season of feeding. A silo ten feet in diameter and twenty feet high will hold twenty-six tons, and pro- vide silage for nine cows. A convenient heighth for a silo above the foundation is twice the diameter.. The silo should be located, if possible, to open into the feed room but if such an arrangement is im- practical, it should be connected with the barn by a covered passage- way. The best foundations are of concrete and the inside of the foun- dation should be at least two inches nearer the center of the silo than the inside of the silo walls. The thick- ness of the wall should vary from ten to eighteen inches, depending on the sie of the silo, kind of foundation and ground on which it is Jlocated. Equal Suffrage will Win, On Saturday the British ministry decided to withdraw the suffrage bill which it had in the house of commons as an amendment had been offered to strike out the word “male” and so have it include women. The action of the ministry has aroused the women to a storm of fury and the world is looking to see a repeti- tion of the riots and disorders which were prevalent last spring. At the same time the English women were seeing their hopes dashed to defeat, the women of North Dakota knew that their state senate had defeated the equal suffrage. bill by one yote. The North Dakota women are confident that they can win over,_enough, votes to have_the .measure;passed: before.the end of.the prosent. session.. SUPERB UNIVERSAL 316-318 Minn. Place for Immature Art. Do not proudly display the art school efforts of your olivq branchea in a framed and glazed condition, un- less there be real merit in them, a thing which, alas! only occurs once in & hundred times, and this is putting it mildly. Clara’s gtudy of “still life” in oils and Fred’s chalk drawing may %e a source of much pride to their parents when they are first brought home, but it would be only kind to place them with one’s private treas- ures rather than let them form a source of irritation to your friends and relations and of misery to their per petrators in after years. The skeleton of what was evidently 8 human being has been found at Wagon Wheel Gap, Col., forty feet below the surface in a solid rock formation. The skeleton, which ap- parently has been sealed in the rocks for thousands of years, was in an al- most perfect state of preservation. The discovery was made by a mining man who was driving a shatt. The skeleton is small, but seems .too strongly built to be that of .a child.
