E. CARSON. 3. X. DENU. HAROLD J. DANE, Bditor. Rolan W. Reed Pictures. Bemidji people have a rare privil- ege in the oportunity of seeing the collection of Indian pictures which have been taken by Roland W .Reed, a former Bemidji business man. Only in two or three cities of the United States have these pictures been shown and it is hardly possible that Bemidji people will have another view in many years. Mr. Reed’s pictures speak for them- selves. Every ome illustrates some phase in the life of the Ojibways—or Chippewas as they are more common- 1y known—and the South Piegans of Montana, who now live on the Black-] foot reservation. One does not need a lecturer to understand them. With marvelous skill, Mr. Reed has caught with the camera scenes and charac- ters of which artists have dreamed and never been able to put on can- vas, One thing the pictures do not tell; that is the story of how they were taken. Thew winter scenes do not show the photographer standing in the same storm in which the Indians are huddled in their lodges; nor does it shew him fighting mosquitoes while wrying to get a true picture of an Indiaa fishing with an old time spear. Mr. Reed has pictures which cost him hundreds of dollars in time and expense. The story of the American Indian is one of the most fascinating of any beople in history. The red man— who at no time probably numbered more than 1,000,000—was once in control of this country but is now rapidly becoming a thing of the past. 1t is Mr. Reed's object to get with the camera scenes illustrative of differ- ent phases in their life and persons who are truly representative of type. Within the next year he will finish the Ojibways and Piegans and move to Los Angeles. where he will com- mence his study of the Indians of the southwest. 5 Mr. Reed’s pictures are complete in composition and workmanship.- One, cannot admire the -pictures without ppreciating the mechanical skill| with which'the negatives were devel- oped and the prints made. Those who are interested in either photographysy, the American Indian or local scenes, should see Mr. Reed’s exhibit. It is the opportunity of a lifetime. Nelson Needs a Room. LA, E. Nelson, agricultural man at the High school, says that he needs some sort of a ground floor office in which he can meet and talk to the farmers who are constantly seeking] his advice. To date they have been talking to Mr. Nelson wherever he, can be found and on occasions have trailed him from the school to his . home and then down.town from store’ to store. 4 It is good for Bemidji to have a man here to whom.the: farmers can and do look for advice and encour- agement. But the efficiency of the man is greatly decreased when' there is no place in which he and the farm- ers can get together. For some reas- on or other, a farmer will not go to the Commercial club rooms nor to the third story of the High school to look for Mr. Nelson. - Neither is.it feasible for Mr. Nelson:to have a desk in some office. A contractor has estimated that for $250 a one-room: office. can be added to the building! = Such a room would glve Mr. Nelson space for his. desk and files and would also be conyen- ient enough for all farmers who hlye s handling a larger number of inunlh Jes each week. //The city cannot, l!-] | have a fine appetite and have gained ‘| help and then not get it ‘because tl are unable to find the one man who can give it to them. ; Good: News, Great joy Is written on her face, A happiness that knows. no bounds; Bhe hopes to- trip with girlish grace Because she's lost eleven pounds. HOWARD WAGNER Writes Personal Letter to Her Drug- gist About a Bad Cough. Mrs. Howard Wagner of Milton, Pa., writes her druggist as follows: “For two months I suffered from a bad cold, from which I could get no relief, then I began to cough and would cough until midnight every night. I consulted a doctor and took two kinds of medicine, but without benefit. One day seeing Vinol, your cod liver and iron medicine adver- tised in my paper, I sent for a bottle. After taking it the second day I did not cough so much and felt stronger, and at the end of a week I could go to bed and sleep without coughing once. I have now taken in all six bottles, and T never felt better in my life. I twelve pounds. As Vinol has helped me so much, I want others to know about it.” The curative and strengthening properties of Vinol - built up: Mrs. Wagner’s health and her cough dis- appeared as a natural result.
