NMAROLD J. DANE, Rditor. Echo of the Titanic Disaster. A dispatch from London says that J. Bruce Ismay has resigned his di- rectorship in the White Star line, the resignation to take effect June 30. It will be remembered that Ismay was the director on board the Titanic when it went down and that at the time there was considerable criticism of his conduct on that occasion. : First Juror to Be Threatened. Frank Dare, foreman of the jury which convicted the dynamiters, is the first one to receive a threatening letter. One was mailed to him from Chicago which said, “This is to in- form you that within three months youw'll be under the sod.” Being the foreman of & dynamite jury is prob- ably not condusive to good sleep. The Law Must Be Upheld. Contrary to the opinion held. by many people that the men involved in the labor union dynamiting cases would never go to prison, thirty- three of the forty men who were tried at Indianapolis are now behind the walls of Leavenworth. Two were released and the others are out on suspended sentences. The men were lodged in the great jail and began serving their sen- tences on the first day of the new year. Taken from the train, they stood two abreast and were called by their names for the last time as hereafter they will be known by number only. They were put in cells in- couples—all except Hockin. He, the man who was a traitor both to the government and his unfon, is » | which are of the greatest interest to ,|over the normal school proposition; 0|it is probable that an official of the every man who las the interest of the city at heart. Both have been put over until the regular mecting on next Tuesday evening. There are several things to be discussed atithe meeting. Tuesday the ‘city. The new Great Northern depot will be completed and in use before another regular meeting time arrives; D. P. O’Neill has been in- vited to attend the meeting and talk Great Northern railway will be here to investigate the sheep rate proposi- tion; there is one matter to come up of which the less is printed the bet- ter; and there will be the regular routine business of the club. Bemidjl needs a live commercial organization of some sort. If the Commercial club is dead there is room for another club. If it is not dead, let the members show it by at- tending the regular meeting Tuesday. There has been too much of a ten- dency to “Let George Do It.” —_— 'HERE AT HOME Bemidji Citizens Gladly Testify and Confidently Recommend Doan’s Kidney Pills. It is testimony like the following that has placed Doan’s Kidney Fills so far above competitors. When pso- ple right here at home raige their voice in praise there is no room laft for doubt. Read the public statement of a Bemidji citizen: W. H. Garrison, barber, 604 Third street, Bemidji, Minn., says: “I kncw Doan’s Kidney Pills are a fine back- ache and kidney remedy. 1 hav: used them for weak, lame and aching back and they have never failed to give me the best of results. I lad pains acrogs my loins and my back was often so lame that it would hurt me to stoop or lift. The kidney secre- tions were unnatural. I got Doau’s Kidney Pills at Barker’s Drug Store and they helped me so much that i can recommend them to anyone fuf fering in a similar way.” For sale by all dealers. Price 5t cents. Foster-Milburn Co., Buffalo. New York, sole agents for the United States. Remember the name—Doan’s - | and take no other.—Adv. alome. The conviction of the dynamiters, and the activity of the government in’ trust prosecutions shows that neither labor nor capital, the poor nor the rich can break federal laws and go unpunighed. Some Parcel Post Don’ts, There are still some “don’ts” which are cropping out in the post- office through the failure of the pub- lic. to become posted on the parcel post law. Here are a few: Don’t mail any fourth-class matter with ordinary postage as the parcels post now includes all matter formerly sent fourth-class and has its own in- dividual stamps. Don’t put ordinary postage on packages to go by parcels post. Don’t mail a parcel post package at a mail box or package drop box. Thé only way a package can be mailed in Bemidji is by taking it to the postoffice. Don’t fail to insure a package which contains valuable contents. Don’t worry about zonmes. The clerk at the postoffice window will tell you the correct postage. Don’t try to send books and print- ed matter by parcels post. ‘They must be sent as-third class mail mat- ter on which the rate is one cent for every two ounces. ’ Don’t send fresh meat beyond the first zone. A Live Commercial Club. Is the Bemidji Commercial club dead? Do the business men . care at all about the progress of the city and the surrounding country? A casual observer would think that the club was dead or that there was nothing to do if he was to judge by the attendance at the Commercial club meetings. During the summer there was a period of inacivity which comes to every club by reason. of the hot weather and the absence of members. In the fall it was hoped that each meeting of the club ‘would see a full attendance. The hope was.not jus- tified. B g B Yesterday afternoon there was' ia special meeting held at whicki’ about fifteén business men were in ‘atte ance.
