- FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1912, A WOMAN'S BACK The Advice of This Bemidji Woman is of Certain Value. Many a woman’s back has many aches and pains. Oft times ’tis the kidneys’ fault. That’s why Doan’s Kidney Pills are so effective. Many Bemidji women know this. Read what one has to say about it. Mrs. A. E. Hannah, 704 Mississip- pi avenue, Bemidji, Minn., says: “Some time ago I began to use Doan’s Kidney Pills and the results were sat- isfactory. At that time I was suffer- ing severely from backache and my kidneys were not doing their work as they shourd. A friend advised me to take Doan’s Kidney Pills and I got some. They restored me to excellent health.” (Statement given October 7, 1910). A LATER ENDORSEMENT. On March 19, 1912, Mrs. Hannah was -interviewed and she said: “The statement I have previously given about Doan’s Kidney Pills holds good. When I have used them I have always received good results.” For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents. Foster-Milburn Co., Buffalo, New York, sole agents for the United States. Remember the mname—Doan’s— and take no other.—Adv. WHY OLLIE WAS WORRIED Statesman Had Reporters, Who Were Watching His Actions, Also on the Anxlous Seat. Ollie James, permanent chairman of the Democratic convention at Bal- timore, was seen in the lobby of the Belvedere ‘hotel in that city one day right in the middle of the tremendous struggle over the nomination. He stopped his huge bulk in the middle of the floor, threw up his hands in a gesture of despair and boomed: “By George, I almost forgot it!"” A dozen reporters were trailing him. ‘What had he forgotten? Certainly it must be something of transcendent importance and the situation was tre- mendously critical. James pushed his way through the crowd. He was in a hurry. It evident- ly was important. A dozen reporters chased after him. James almost ran up to the newsstand. The reporters arrived with him. “Gee,” sighed James. didn’t forget it after all.” The reporters crowded round. Some- thing was coming off—but what? “Gee,” said James again, “it would have been terrible if I had forgotten it.” “What is it?” yelled the exclted re- porters. “Son,” said James to the newsstand boy, “gimme a quarter’s worth of chewing-gum.”—Baltimore Sun. PUT FORWARD NEW RELIGIONS Wives of Prominent Public Men De- velop Faiths That Attract Many Followers. “I'm glad I Strange creeds among women no longer cause the excitement they did In former years, and it is interesting _ _ THE BEMIDI DAILY ProNEER to note how many women of distiné- tion have departed from the beaten path of orthodoxy and have raised al- tars to alien gods. Mrs. George Dew- ey has long been a student of the oc- cult and her researches into eastern religion have been profound and along criginal lines. There are three heal- ers of the Christian Science fhith among the wives of United States senators—Mrs. George T. Oliver of Pennsylvania; Mrs. Gilbert Hitchcock of Nebraska, and Mrs. John D. Works of California—and there are about 20 cther women in the senatorial and congressional set who believe in Chris- tian Science, New Thought or similar creeds. Mrs. Hayes, wife of the mem- ber of congress for San Jose, Cal,, is a founder of a new religion called the True Faith of Christ. And Yet Occasionally? “Life is not a solemn thing. Pathet- o, yes; tragic, often; squalid, splen- did, crazy, jolly, lit with dreams and laughter, an immense joke, and a black grief—but solemn, never.”— "Views and Vagabonds,” by R.. Mac aulay. Old Fortification Sold. ‘At & Dublin auction mart the mar- telio tower on the island of Shenick, near Skerries, was recently sold. The monument to the old style of resist- ing invasion was disposed of for a good price, but the name of the pur chaser was not disclosed. Not a Good Foot Warmer. A guest at a hotel in Pomona, Cal., put an elgetric tight bulb in his bed to keep his feet warm: The bulb was smashed while he slept and he awoke to find the bedclothes in flames. He burned himself badly in extinguishing the fire. A GRANDMOTHERS USED SAGE TEA To Darken the Hair and Restore Gray and Faded Hair to Its Na- tural Color, It is easier to preserve the color of the hair than to restore it, although it is possible to do both. Our grand- mothers understood the secret. They made a “sage tea,” and their dark, glossy hair long after middle life was due to this fact. Our mothers have gray hairs before they are fifty, but they are beginning to appreciate the wisdom of our grandmothers in us- ing “sage tea” for their hair and are fast following suit. The present generation has the ad- vantage of the past in that it can get a ready-to-use preparation called ‘Wyeth’s Sage and Sulphur Hair Rem- edy. As a scalp tonic and color re- storer this preparation is vastly su- perior to the ordinary “sage tea” made by our grandmothers. The growth and beauty of the hair depends on a healthy condition of the scalp. Wyeth’s Sage and Sulphur Hair Remedy quickly kills the dan- druff germs which rob the hair of its life, color and lustre, makes the scalp clean and healthy, gives the hair strength, color and beauty, and makes it grow. Get a 50-cent bottle from your druggist today. He will give your money back if you are not satisfied after a fair trial.—Adv. FUNERAL DIRECTOR M. E.
