The vote was light but I am confident that I shall be the nom- inee.” ‘With more returns coming in, the lead of George French over his op- ponents for the nomination of coun- ty treasurer is increasing. M. E. Ibertson is also leading Dr. Ward by a good margin and unless the vote from the upper end of the county is the opposite to that of the lower end, these men will win renomination. On Board Wilson Special Car “Mag- net,” Leaving Minnesota En Route to Chicago, Sept. 19.—One of the things about his campaign trip which Governor Woodrow Wilson enjoys as much as any other is his informal medls on his special car with the newspaper men who accompany him and with such local committees as board his train from time to time. The Wilson party is a little large for the car, so when they sit down to meals, somebody has to occupy the upholstered bench which runs across one end of the combination observa- tion parlor and dining room. Early in the game the governor pre-empted this seat, insisting that the rest of the gentlemen had to work harder than he did and were entitled to reg- ular chairs. In order to bring the governor’s arms up to a comfortable eating position, the porter has pro- vided him with an ottoman. As.the bench has springs in it, this causes the candidate to bounce up and down in lively fashion and keep a close eye on his equilibrium. In spite of repeated requests that he take a chair, however, he declined to do so, and seems to enjoy the balancing contest three times a day. _ - The meals also give him an oppor- tunity to indulge in story-telling, which he emjoys, and there isn’t a ‘meal that he doesn’t tell one or more and laugh with the correspondents, who also contribute their share. As he sat bouncing up and down at | breakfast ‘this morning, Governor | | Wilson told a good one about his father, who is a frequent subject of
