The office of county attorney is a very important one \in any county, and especially so in Beltrami ‘county. Not only is the county attorney the public prosecutor, but he has charge of all the civil business of the county. Every bill allowed by the county board must pass through his hands and receive his “0. K.” as to legality before it is paid. Since Graham M. Torrance was ap- pointed county attorney in June, he has established a most enviable record. Not only has he been suc- cessful as a prosecutor, but he has handled that part of the business with dispatch and economy. During the brief time he has held that office Mr. Torrance has s}mwn plainly that he possesses not only the qualities of a successful prosecutor, but also those qualities of business ability, fearless- ness and integrity which have made him the best kind of a good business adviser for the officers of the county. 1f the people of this county do not appreciate such services by nominat- ing and electing him by an over- whelming majority, they are making a grave mistake. If such ability and fidelity to duty is not recognized in a public official, then public offices will be held only by men who care more for their own personal interest than they do for their own self-respect and for the respect of right thinking peo- ple. ‘We believe that the people of this county do appreciate such service from a public official, and that they will show, by their votes, that it pays a public official to always consider a public office as a public trust. All things come hard to the lazy man. We have some in Bemidji. Ice box thieves are becoming more numerous, which is just another sad outcome of the high cost of living. Your coal bin will bear watching. So will the coal situation. It will pay you well to keep your eye on both. THIS DATE IN HISTORY.
