NAROLD J. DANE, Editor. Helmer Funeral Sunday. Norman Helmer was a servant of the county when he died. He died while doing his duty and he died fearlessly and with no word of regret passing hig lips. The funeral will be held Sunday at 2.p. m. in the city hall. It is a public funeral and every man and woman who can do so owes it to Norman Helmer to attend his funeral. At their regular meeting this week, the board of county commissioners of Cass county were told by Auditor Iverson that there are already too many townships named “Roosevelt” of the supreme court of the United States, sixty-nine years old today. The Mississippi river rises in one of these lakes and flows over 250 miles through the state before it becomes large enough to act as'a state line and a barrier against presidential | nominations. Consequently the Stanton township was renamed ‘“Trelipee” and the Roosevelt township is now “Bull Moose.” | In about twenty years, the mail clerks in Cass county will be tearing their hair because of the large num- ber of “Charles Stanton Johnsons” and “Thebdore Roosevelt Oisons.” But the town of Bull Moose will go down in history. High School Party. The high school students who are planning a summer party for next Friday evening have taken steps to inaugurate a custom that should prove one of the most popular enter- tainments for summer visitors to Be- midji. The young men who are spending the summer at different lake resorts are planning to attend the party and many of the ladies have sent home for their party dresses. Two or three such parties every sum- mer would give the young people of Bemidji opportunity to meet the young people who summer here and the friendships thus formed should make vacations more pleasant for all. County Needs Exhibits. A. P. Ritchie, secretary of the ex- ecutive board of the Beltrami coun- ty fair, has issued a call for speci- mens of crop grown in this county, the same to be exhibited at the state and county fairs. No better adver- tising can be had for a county than a good crop exhibit. Pictures and reading matter cannot tell the story as well as the actual samples. Far- mers are urged to send in their best and stand together in boosting for Beltrami county. The fair board has issued an at- tractive booklet listing the prizes| which will be awarded at the coun- ty fair next month. Exhibits can be shown at the state fair and then be brought to the county fair and en- tered as prize winners. Copies of the premium list may be had by sending a two cent stamp to the Pioneer to cover postage or can be had free by calling in person at'the office. THIS IS MY 63rd BIRTHDAY. Horace Fletcher. Horace Fletcher, who is noted as the “Fletcherism,” or the science of the mastication of food, was born in Lawrence, Mass., August 10, 1849. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1866 and has since traveled in all parts of the world engaged in numerous occupations. Of late years he has devoted his attention to soci- ology, and especially the scientific research in human nutrition. Mr. Fletcher has lectured before many colleges and medical societies in America and Europe and has been a frequent contributor to magazines and scientific papers.
