HAROLD J. DANE, Editor. More Lonely Than Ever. Speaker Dunn says that he did not authorize the placing of his signa- ture on the call for a third party convention. Senator Hanson, of Ada, says that he authorized his name on- 1y on the condition that all of the other delegates to the Chicago con- vention signed. Support is falling away from the bull moose in Minne- sota. Wonder who will be next to go? Don’t Fail to Vote. Two members of the present school board, Drs. Smith and Marcum, come before the people of Bemidji for re- election tonight. The Pioneer believ- es that both should be returned to the board. Bemidji has many dollars tied up in school property. The board is the official custodian of this property. It also looks to the teachers and methods used to instruct the coming generations in order that they may develop to the highest type of citizens. The men who serve on the board must be of the best types and better specimens could not be found than the two doctors. thousands of For six years, Drs. Marcum and Smith have served on the board faith- fully. They are not politicians and care only to serve the people. They have served long enough to become thoroughly acquainted with the rou- tine of the board. Their business makes it hard for them to serve the public in any other capacity and as they are willing to continue this ser- vice, they should be retained. Women have the right to vote in school affairs and this election will be a good opportunity for the ladies to show how much strength the wom- an suffrage movement has in Bemidji A large ballot should be cast. The doctors deserve re-election by a vote that shows that their services have been appreciated. Also a large vote will make it impossible for a dark horse to steal the election by taking a few of his friends to the polls and having them vote for him. From the Poets’ Blue. BY EUGENE FIELD. The little toy dog is covered with dust, But sturdy and stanch he stands: And the little toy soldier is red with rust, And his musket moulds hands. Time was when the little toy dog was new, And the soldier was passing fair, And that was the time when our Lit- tle Boy Blue Kissed them and put them there. “Now, don’t you go till I come,” he said, “And don’t you make any noise!” So toddling off to his trundle-bed He dreamt of the pretty toys. And as he was dreaming, an angel song Awakened our Little Boy Blue— Oh, the years are many, the years are long, But the little toy friends are true Ay, faithful to Little Boy Blue they stand, Each in the same old place, Awaiting the touch of a little hand, The smile of a little face. And they wonder as waiting these long years through, In the dust of that little chair, What has become of our Little Boy Blue Since he kissed them and put them there. THIS DATE IN HISTORY. Recently a well known ventriloquist who was taking a journey, just man- aged to get into the train as it was leaving the station, and had no time to take out a dog ticket for his ter- Tier. When the cry “All tickets ready!” was heard a few stations farther on, the ventriloquist dropped the dog into a hamper, which was labeled in bold characters: “Professor. Jones, ven- triloquist.” ‘When the ticket inspector opened the carriage door the dog began to bark, The man, noticing the label on the bamper, turned to the ventriloquist with a self-satisfied grin and said: “All right mister, that's verra clever, but ye Ganna 26l me; that trick’s been played on me before.”—London Opinion. - .
