An epidemic of sidewalk marking seems to have broken ont in Bemidji during the past weck and several down town walks have been made unsightly as a result. There ars le- gitimate ways of advertising that will get better results and do away with the dirtying up of the walks. The thing should be stopped. Throwing Hats, Throwing hats in the ring seems to be such a popular pastime that some men wi]l take their hats from one ring agq throw them into an- other. Witness Alvah Eastman switching from congressman-at- large to congressman from the Sixth, and L. C. Spooner from governor to congressman-at-large. e ———— Good for Bemidji. Bemidji is one of six northern Minne#sta towns and one of eighteenl in the state that are being visited by special lecturers «nd entertainers from the University of Minnesota during the first three weeks in June. The city can take some pride in the fact as it was selected hecause, as one of the committee said, “\We only want to go to live towns.” Having been selected as one of the “live” towns of the state, it is now up to Bemidji to make good. There are several ways. In the first rlace, every family should take at least one of the season tickets in order that the proposition will be safe financial- ly. These are on sale now by thirty Bemidji business men at $1 each and cover admissions to each of the ev- ening entertainments, the day lec- tures being free. Another way is to clean up the yards and alleys. The health officer has repeatedly called attention to the condition of the alleys but few have made efforts to clean them up. Streets and alleys make forcible im- pressions on visitors and if they are to carry away the idez that Bemidji is the best town on the circuit, it must be made so. Street Commissioner Carter has made a big improvement in the lake shore by plotting the park at the foot of Third street and cleaning the weeds away from the water line. The good work can be cairied on by us- ing a little grass seed and cleaning up the shore on the other side of the dock. There are hundreds of little things mere details in themselves, which go to make a clean and live city. Use the next ten days to care for ‘hem and see the good advertising that will be taken away by the visitors. Whoever goes away must be filled with enthusiasm for Demidji. THIS DATE IN HISTORY.
