THIS IS MY 46th Birthday. Lord Islington. Lord Islington, the present Gover- nor of New Zealand, was born May 13, 1866, and was educated at Har- row and Oxford. In his early career he was known as Sir John Poynder Dickson. In 1881, on succeeding to the property of a maternal uncle, he changed his name to Sir John Poyn- der Dickson-Poynder. Two years ago, when he was appointed governor of New Zealand, he was elevated to the peerage and assumed the title of Lord Islington. Prior to going to New Zealand he had held several im- portant posts in.the British colonial service and had also won distinction in military service in the South Af- rican campaign in 1900. Congratulations to: Bishop Joseph F. Berry, of the Methodist Episcopal church, fifty-six years old today. The Duchess of Hamilton, one of England’s most beautiful women, thirty-four years old today. Thank You Both, The Long Prairie Leader says: “The Bemidji Pioneer started its tenth year last week. The Pioneer is one of the proofs that northern Minnesota is hustling and progres- Through thick and thin the Pioneer has been issued as a daily paper. The editors did not wait for territory to develop to daily paper proportions but jumped in ahead and proceeded to pull the ter}itory up to the mark of development that the paper had set. It has been one.of the persistent and consistent boosters of northern Minnesota.” The Duluth News-Tribune “News and Comment” says: “The Bemidji Pioneer is ten years old—ten years of service and usefulness.” sive. Caucus Pointers. Results from the caucus held in this state last week show clearly that Theodore Roosevelt is the choice of Minnesota for the Republican nomin- ation for president. LaFollette and Taft have each captured about the same number of counties. The ques- tion is—Will Roosevelt have enough delegates in the district and state conventions to” win electors to Chi- cago? Kandiyohi county voted on gov- ernor in their caucuses Saturday night with the result that of the pre- cincts reported in at this time, Gor- don has 221 votes; Lee, 187; and Eberhart 121. This county is in Gordbq's congressional “district but Lee made a close fight and claims _that he will have more votés when all are counted. The vote on governor shows that Eberhart is a bad third and that the people of Kandiyohi are not with the machine. X Roosevelt, Our Roosevelt.... Mrs. Henry Revor, 808 Bemidji Ave., Bemidji, Minn., says: “The public statement I gave in October, 1910, about Doan’s Kidrey Pills was true. The benefit they brought me has been permanent. I suffered from backache for weeks at a time and it seemed that I could get nothing that would give me relief. Finally I heard about Doan’s Kidney Pills and after taking the contents of two boxes I felt like a different person. You may continue to use my name as a refer- ence.” For sale by all dealers. With sixteen passenger trains daily on four railroads and eight or ten freight trains the jobbers and retailers are in a position to care for the wante and needs of the surrounding territory in better shape than those of a more distant market. In addition to the wholesale and retail advertisers may be found other business enterprises catering to the trade coming into Bemidji. patronage and should receive consideration at the hands of the community. % FARAHAIIFRIIF IR KK MACHINE SHOP "We do general repair work of all kinds.
