In preparing porridge, gravy, etec., containing new milk, the salt should not be.added until the dish is pre- pared as it curdles the milk. Tea will have a better flavor if the pot containing the leaves is placed in the top of the kettle while the water is coming to a boil. Then pour the boiling water over the leaves. Verdigris on metal can be quickly removed by rubbing with a soft rag dipped in ammonia. Feathers that have grown grimy can be given a bath in alcohol, after which they are shaken until dry. Wash dishes wused in preparing foods for a meal while the foods are cooking, and thus learn to get dish- washing simplified. To take a cork out of ‘a bottle when’ there is neither a corkscrew nor a knife at hand, stick two safety pins diagonally through the cork, opposite each other. By pulling on the up- per part of the two pilns one can re- move the cork easily. To clean white felt hats brush thoroughly with a soft, clean brush.
