There is talk of an effort to di- vide Cass county at the approaching ceneral election. A glance at the map suggests the propriety and feas- ibility of the scheme, so far as area goes. But whether the assessed val- uatien on the county is large enough to justify the added expense of an- other coterie of county officials and other requirements of county main- tenance, presents another and very important question. However, we do not assume to advise our neighbors| i in the matter. Making Good and Making Excuses. The pecullar thing about the man who never makes good is his marve- Jousg ability to trump up showing “why and how"™ not. exeuses he could The man who tells you that he will meet you at a certain hour and is not there will invariably see you next day with a blanket of finely wo- ven excuses which would do justice to an attorney attempting to get a new trial. There was once a solicitor connect- ed with a big business concern who did not solicit. He told a few stor- ies, including one about his salary, and always in conversation he drew twice what he really got—and what he really got was just twice what he was really worth. The man who never DOES is al- ways busy telling folks why he DIDN'T. He evades direct answers just as he does direct action. He is always GOING to do something but never gets around to it. In the world of excuses he is a genius, but no one is ever able to place a finger on anything that he has actually done. . The work of some people consists in getting to and from the office, al- though thelr contract calls for busi- ness. This type ‘of individual takes up the time of those who are use- fully employed, telling just how he “almost” landed a contract or made a sale. He may be punctual to the minute but delivers nothing on his arrival. This type of man believes that “be- ing around” is being on the job, that getting down to the office is getting down to business, that swelling up over a thing is swelling the receipts. When this type of man is discharg- ed from his job, which of course he always is in due course of time, he tells his friends how “someone hag it in for him” and that his discharge is the result of a conspiracy formed by a few head men who were afraid of him. He is always late, always detained, always busy, always sick—anything and everything except on the job at the time he is supposed to be. The moral—The world has no use for such a2 man and he is only used to fill it until it is possible to get the real thing.—Efficiency. At Ras el Mihr the coast takes & sudden trend south for 20 miles, then turns as abruptly in an easterly direction. Near the angle the high coast drops suddenly in a clifty point, nearly half a mile south of which is the anchorage on a weedy bottom. Twelve miles north is Bardieh, a bet- ter shelter, which would be made into a tolerable harbor by a breakwater. If the frontier line of Egypt were carried about four miles to the west Bardieh would be included in Egyp- tian territory. The Sollum anchorage derives its principal value from the fact that it is the nearest point on the Mediterranean to the Siwah oasis, and is thus the sea end of the most direct route through a string of oases to the Sudan. But to' deseribe this uninvit- ing corner of an inhospitable coast as “the finest harbor in these parts,” In the words of a contemporary, is al- together misleading. A HOT ONE. Balm Will Stop it in the Sneezing Stage. A cold generally attacks the weak- est part, affecting the eyes and ears in some and producing nasal catarrh and throat troubles in others. A cold is due to an inflammation of the membrane lining the air passages, and may be promptly cured with a little Ely’s Cream Balm, which im- mediately relieves the inflammation and all the distressing symptoms, such ag sneezing, coughing, running at the nose and eyes, hoarseness, gore throat, fever and headache. One rea- son why this pure antiseptic Balm acts so quickly is because it is ap- plied directly to the tender, sore sur- face. Even In severe, chronic cases of catarrh Ely’s Cream Balm never fails to quickly and effectually check the polsonous discharge which clogs the head and throat, causing the disgust- ing hawking, spitting and blowing of the nose. This remedy not only drives out the disease, but heals and strengthens the weakened mem- branes, thus ending eatarrh. Catarrh is a filthy, disgusting dis- ease. ‘Don’t put up with it another day.
