Street Commissioner Carter is pro- gressing rapidly in building the Lake Boulevard extension. Lake Boulevard which up to the present time has ended at the Gibbons resi- dence, will hereafter continue down the lake shore joining the Grand Forks Bay road at the Kelsey Boat Works. In making the new road a large fill has to be closed in but it is expected that the work will be completed soon. Complaint is being made of a band of gypsies that came to Bemidji a few days ago in eight covered wag- ons and camped on-the race track at the fair grounds. Persons living in that part of the city say that quar- rels and loud talk by the gypsies continue until late in the night. The young women of the band go from house to house to tell fortunes and all members are not backward about accepting gifts of clothing.and eat- ables. Tuesday evening the B. Y. P, U. of the Baptist church held their semi-annual business meeting and election of officers for the next:term of six months. The following offi- cers were elected: H. E. Rice, pres- ident; Martha Huntosh, vice presi- dent; De’Arcy McGee, secretary; Maude Slater, treasurer, treasurer. After the election the young people held their usual banquet in the church reception parlors. Members of the Firemens’ running team hold practice runs every even- ing and the results are encouraging to those who hope that the team will retain the banner they won last year. The team will enter the tournament at Ada next week. Fire- men Hanson and Dennis, the fast. couplers of the Bemidji team are making a splendid showing in prac- tice and it is expected that they will have no trouble in landing the money. Miss Rachel Isaacson of Richmond, Virginia, is the guest of I. I. Dob- bedahl of Guthrie. This is her first trip to northern Minnesota and she is much pleased with the north. John Merrigan and wife will ar- rive this evening from Carbondale, Penn. Mr. and Mrs. Merrigan are on their honeymoon and plan on spending some time here as the guests of the bride’s aunt, Mrs. R. Fenton. Miss Dorothy Humes of Cass Lake, arrived in Bemidji yesterday after- noon, and left las evening for Minne- apolis and Chicago, where she will remain a few weeks. While in Be- midji Miss Humes was the guest of Miss Donna Lycan, Chief of Police Joseph Harrington, accompanied by his little daughter, left this morning for Eau Claire, Wis. Mr. Harrington received a telegram yesterday informing him that his mother and sister were both ill and in a serious condition. His mother is 84 years old and is the oldest pioneer in Eau Claire.
