The recent rains have raised the water in the small creeks running into Red Lake so that logs can now be floated into the big lake. The steam-boats have already started with their cargoes for the outlets. The water in Red Lake River has raised enough to suppose that logs can be driven without extra difffi- culty. A week ago Wednesday a crew of 28 men left here for Red Lake where they are getting the logs under way. Another crew left here Monday noon to meet the logs and drive them down. Just as soon as it is possible to get the men together the mill will be running full force, with two crews the same as it has ayways been. The failure of the mill to start as usual this spring has caused considerable inconvience to residents and . busi- ness men of Thief River Falls. It is hoped that the present bright prospects will materialize and that we will soon be enjoying the added prosperity which a first class saw mill brings to a city. ‘Whooping cough is not danger- ous when the cough is kept loose and expectoration easy by giving Cham- berlain’s Cough Remedy. The new state olemargarine law will go into effect July 1. The law not only prohibits the sale of color- ed olemargarine in any form or man- ner, but permits the sale- of wun- colored olemargarine only when the customer has full knowledge of what he is getting. The bill was introduced by Sena- tor H. N. Benson of St. Peter and had hard sledding. It prohibits the sale of any substitute for butter which is colored in tint of yellow. It does not help if the manufactu- rer uses half or two-thirds cream— it is against the law to sell it if it looks like butter. When uncolored olemargarine is sold, the tub or package must have the word “olemargarine” in a prom- inent place in big type. The retail- er in turn must deliver the product to his customer in wrappers having stamped in plain type the - word “olemargarine” and also the'name of the retailer and the manufacturer. The use of any descriptive matter intended to mislead the customer, such as“Jersey butterine,” or Coun- try Rolls,” or “Dairy Rolls,” is specifically ‘prohibited. Another section prohibits the pro- prietor of any hotel, dining room, dining car, drinking place, cafe, bakery, boat, lumber camp, mining camp, railroad camp, boarding house hospital or other place where guests board or patients are served with food for pay from serving any sub- stitute for butter unless the words “olemargarine’” used in place of but- ter,” are on the bill of fare or post- ed on the walls of the room. The penalty for violation of the law is a fine of from $50 to $100 or a jail sentence of $30 days, with higher penalties for a second of- fense. See F. E.
