A quorum being present the meeting was called to order by President Johnson. Roll call of aldermen showed the following present: Klein, Moberg, Smart, Bailey, Bisiar, Roe, Brown, Crippen, Johnson. Liquor license application of Walter Nelson was read and on motion and second was laid on table indefinitely. Transfer application of liquor license from Thos. Bailey to F. S. Peckles as city scavan- ger in the sum of $500.00 was read and approved on motion duly made and sec- onded. Petition of J. B. Hook was read ask- ing for permission to use.about 25 feet on 3rd street to allow him to put in a foundation under Clavin & Tanner’s building. Said request was granted on motion and second, and said Hook to file a bond in the sum of $500.00 to tree the city from any accident that might result therefrom. Recommendation was read from the building committee that a six foot pick- et rence be built around the lot en- closing the water tank, pump_station, ete., and on motion and second the city clerk was instructed to advertise for bids for such fence, the clerk to confer with the building committee as to spec- ifications, etc. Ordinance No. 51, “regulat.ng restaur- ants, eating houses and lunch rooms .n buildings licensed to conduct saloons,” was read the first time. Ordinance. No. 52, “regulating and fixing the retail liquor license fee at $1000.00,” was read the first time. Petition was now read, signed by a great-many citizens, requesting the council to raise the liquor license fee to $1000.00 and to reduce the number of saloons to 16. After a general dis- cussion by members of the council and visitors present, said petition was laid seconded. Moved and seconded that the three banks in the city be designated reposi- tories for city monies. Such money to be pro-rated to each bank according to its capitalization. Carried. Moved and seconded that the clerk advertise for bids for the official print- ing of the City of Bemidji for ensuing year. Bids to be opened April 3rd, 1911. Moved and seconded that the clerk advertise for bids for the burial of city paupers for the ensuing year, said bids to be opened March 27th, 1911. Carried. Moved and seconded that the city buy all dirt or sand necessary for streets etc, at a price not to exceed 10 cents per cubic yard, delivered according to instructions of the street commissioner. Carried. Mcved and seconded that Alderman Moberg of the poor committee and city clerk purchase 5 cords of wood for the poor farm. Carried. Moved and seconded that the city clerk purchase necessary dry wood for city hall. Carried. On motion and second the mayor and the chief of police were appointed ad- ditional members of the health board. No further business appearing it was moved we adjourn. Adjonrned.
