Walther, a wealthy shoe manufacturer, was found in Burks creek, seven miles from here, by policemen. Mr. Walther left his home Tuesday night after declar- ing to his wife that he intended to go to the drug store. For over a year he had been afflicted with a nervous mal- ady and it is said that recently he thréatened to commit suicide unless relief came. Burns May Be Fatal to Woman. Superior, Wis., Feb. 2—Mrs. Fred- erick Garcelon, wife of the head book- keeper for the Pittsburg Coal com- pany, and a prominent local society woman, was so badly burned in a fire at her home that she may die. Olympia, Wash., Feb. 2.—Having re- imbursed his bondsmen and ‘repaid thousands. of dollars to depositors lost by them when his bank failed in 1893, J. K. Edmiston, president of the Wal- la Walla Savings bank and the Se-| curity Savings bank of Seattle, who has been a fugitive from justice since his conviction in 1895, was pardoned by Governor Hay and can now return to this country. It is not known where Edmiston is, but he is believed to be in Honduras. He also is said to have been interested in a large electrical project in Egypt and for a time was manager of a large mercantile establishment in Lon- don. In granting the pardon Governor Hay said that any man who had spent years in foreign lands working to re- pay depositors money lost in his banks had done all that could be reasonably asked of him and was entitled to his legal freedom.
