Boston, July 21.—Sixteen of the practitioners who were identified with Mrs. Augusta Stetson in her contro- versy with the First Christian Science church in New York have been dropped from membership by the di- rectors of the mother church in Bos- ton, according to a statement made by Archibald McLellan, one of the directors. Y., July 20.—As a result ot the strike of Grand Trunk train- men and conductors the Wabash rail- road is partially tied up. Wabash train No. 1, a fast express for St. Louis, which arrived at 2 a. m. from the East, did not get away for seven hours. Other trains were delayed, but not seriously. No Freight Accepted in Chicago. Chicago, July 20.—The local freight houses of the Grand Trunk railway were closed to outbound freight. All inbound freight and that cousigned from other railroads was handled as rapidly as possible. The officials said no freight would be accepted from any source except under the provision that it was subject to delay. Shops Closed in Michigan, Battle Creek, Mich., July 20.—Seven hundred employes of the Grand Trunk locomotive shops located in this city found themselves locked out when they reported for work. Passenger trains are attempting to run accord- ing to schedule, but much freight is 8aid to be held up in the yards. Sacramento, Cal, July 20.—Two men giving their names as James C. Brown and Charles Dunbar, who were arrested by a constable here for horse stealing, have been identified as the bandits who held up and robbed the Japan fast mail on the Southern Pa- cific at Goodyear on April 17 last. The RBumbers of the revolvers they carried led to their identification. Aimed at Jeffries-Johnson Films. Atlanta, Ga., July 20.—Pictures of prize fights between white men are not barred by the new Georgia anti- fight picture law, just passed by the legislature. The measure simply pro- hibits the exhibition of moving pic- tures between white men and negroes and was designed to prohibit those of the Jeffries-Johnson contest. Chicago Postal Bank Jan. 1. Chicago, July 20.—The Chicago pos- tal savings bank is to be open and ready for business Jan. 1, 1911. This was the ord received from Washing- ton by Postmaster Campbell. The message also said that Chicago would be one of the first cities to receive a government banking institution. Newcastle, Eng., July 21.—The strike movement against the North- eastern railroad is being strengthened steadily. Ten thousand men have quit work and every hour brings re- ports of further desertions. The regular passenger trains are still being operated with fair regular- ity, but the company was obliged to command the service of station mas- ters and clerks in order to man the few local trains that it was able to move. ENDS LONG AND - BITTER WARFARE Peace Pact Between Labor and Stove and Range Gompany, Cincinnati, July 21.—A peace pact of great importance to organized la- bor was reached here between offi- cers of the American Federation of Labor on the one side and members of the Stove Founders’ National De- fense association on the other. The effect of the agreement is to end the bitter warfare between the Federation of Labor and the Buck Stove and Range company of St. Louis. The association and the stove com- pany, through its representatives here, announced their withdrawal from the prosecutions against Presi- dent Gemuers, Viee President John Mitchell and Secrétary Morrison of the American Federation of Labor in the contempt ' cases now pending against them. ‘Whether the appeal of the three men from jail sentences imposed up- on them for alleged violation of an in- Jjunction shall be fought to a finish in the supreme couit rests now with Attorney General Wickersham, A Child’s Character.
