O'Keefe of Minneapolis spent the day in the city, continuing his trip through to Crookston this afternoon. Charles D. Dan Rose departed for St. Cloud last evening. Mr. Rose will go to the cities from there, then to Wausau and Milwaukee, Wis. He expects to be gone for a period of two weeks. H. E. Anderson leaves tomorrow for Blackduck as advance agent for Masten’s orchestra. He will make preparations for the concert and ball to be given at that city on the even- ing of April 8. Mrs. Ethel Ames and little daughter arrived in the city iast ‘evening from Seattle, Wash., and will visit for an indefinite period at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Muncey, of this city. Mr. K. Neutson, who represents the Mutual Fire insurance companies of this state, is spending a week in this city on business. Mr. Neutson states that business men in cities all throughout this state are falling in line for the Mutual companies. Hickco, who have charge of the construction of the bridges for the Soo railway, are contemplating to = commence active work in a few days. A. B. Steen of Reynolds, N. D., is in the city on both a pleasure and business mission. Mr. Steen, it is said, is planning to invest in farm lands around -Bemidji. ~ He believes that the future of property in this section of the country is very promising and should encourage many to invest in property near this city. Mrs. George Weetman and. her sister, Miss Kronberg of Minne- apolis left this morning for Evans ville, Minn., accompanying the body of Mr. Weetman, who died in this city Sunday, and whose body will buried at Evansville on Friday. Mrs. Weetman will remain at. Evansville for some time before returning to Bemidji. A. Linden of Duluth, who has the contract for the modernizing of the Merchant’s Hotel building in -this city, is here ready to commence active work on this building. = The present Merchants Hotel building will be thoroughly overhauled. The improvements to be made on- this building will alter the appearance on both Second street and Minnesota avenue. Around the outside of the building on these streets there is to be built a balcony, projecting . out. over the entire walk. After. the completion of the plans this will give Bemid!i a modern and up-to- date hotel building. It is not known who will conduct this hostelry, . but no doubt it will be placed in charge of a first-class hotel man. i The Bemidji High School boys are practicing dilizeytly for the game of baseball to be played with Grand Rapids a week from mext Sunday. The trying out of good material seems to have developed a #ood many promising players. .The probable line-up for the Grand Rapids game is as follows: -The choice of box artists will be Hilliard McDonald and Gill; 1b, Morrison: 2b, Larson; 3band captain, Brenne. won; ss, Knox, If, Sgencer; cf. Bailey; rf, Neumann. Weekley, Moritz, Elletson and Engels are all very promising players and. no doubta position will be found for one of these, ‘For the present they will act as substitutes, The boys will play several practice games before the Grand Rapids game. The trustees of the Methodist church met Monday afternoon and opened bids for the conmstruction of the mew church, upon which they will commence work 'at once. The contract was let to the lowest bidder, he being George Kreatz of this city and was ac- cepted. .The architect to be. in charge of this work is Bert Keck of Crookston. Mr. Keck was also present at the trustees’ meeting and he will . be given charge and iuper- vision of the the construction of the new Methodist church. :This step. has been awaited anxiously by many: people, ' “especially, the church congregation; and the fact that Bemidji is to have another new modern church building will add both in appearance of the corner site and the spiritual welfare of the community. Pittsburg, April 7.—District Attor- ney Blakely promises ‘“great sensa- tions” in the graft investigation being conducted by the grand jury. The nature of the sensation, how- ever, was not disclosed.
