Lawrence, who have been in charge of the Indian school at Cross Lake, on the north shore of Lower Red Lake, passed through the city this morn- ing on their way to the state of Washington, where they will here- after make their home. Mr. Lawrence was the teacher in charge of the school and the government demonstration farm at Cross Lake, and in the latter work he attained very signel success in raising corn, cereals and vegetables. Whben some state officials visited the Cross Lake school, last fall, they pronounced the corn the best ever raised in Minnesota. Robert Neving, the sage of the Clearwater lake country, has been in the city yesterday and today, looking after some legal matters in which he is interested. “Bob” is one of the progressives among the farmers of Clearwater county, and is getting along nicely with his work. Peter Urseth, one of the farmers who have faithfully stood by the Shotley district until that community is a thriving farming section, was in Bemidji yesterday, having come over from Crookston, where he had been on a visit. Mr. Urseth returned last night to his home at Shotley. He is an old friend of ‘Andrew John- son, and he and the deputy sheriff had quite a visit, yesterday. W. D.
