Miller and Henry Haas, who own valuable farms west of Kelliher, and Charles Hartman, the Kelliher liveryman, were business visitors in Bemidji today. They came down from Kelliher this morn- ing and will probably return north this evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Pacha and two children of Blackduck passed through the city this morning from the “‘Duck,” on their way to Brain- erd, where they will attend the wedding of Paul Pepin, who is marrying a very estimable Brainerd lady. Forrer of International Falls, sheriff of Koochiching county, was an official visitor in Bemidji Saturday night. Mr. Forrer had in custody Harold Johnson, who had been committed to jail for ninety days on the charge off petty larceny, and as the Beltrami county jail is the official “bastile” for Koochich- ing county, Jobnson was brought here to serve his sentence. George Kirk came to the city Saturday evening from Solway, where he had been looking after his jobs of toting material for the bridge-building firm of Barbau & Hickcox, who are putting in the bridges for the Soo Railway com- pany, along its Plummer-Moose Lake line. Mr. Kirk has the -con- tract to tote all of the bridge material and building paraphernalia from points west of Bemidji on the G. N. railway to the bridge sites north of the G. N. Parshall came over from Cass Lake yesterday afternoon and spent the afternoon and evening in this city, being present at the Sabbath school ser- vices yesterday afternoon and con- ducting preaching services last even- ing, at Odd Fellows’ hall. Lenihan of Lakeville de- parted last Saturday night for his home, having spent several days in this vicinity, looking after some property interests which he has here. Mr. Lenihan is a staunch supporter of northern Minnesota, and like all persons from other parts of the state who have taken the trouble to investigate our various resources, believes firmly that we have in this section the very finest agricultural lands in the state, providing they are tilled intelligently. Mr. Leniban expressed himself as well pleased with the efforts being made by the farmers hereabouts to engage in dairying, and was also favorably impressed with the agitation being made by the people of Bemidji and the farmers of the surrounding country for the establishment of a beet sugar factory in this city. Miss Eva Graling of Staples, Minn,, is visiting with her sister, Miss Rica Graling, a teacher in the public schools of this city. Miss Eva Graling will spend the Easter week vacation here in Bemidji. Pat Heft, one of the old-timers among the Blackduck residents, came down from the “Duck” this morning and spent today in Bemidji, looking after some business matters, Mr. Heft is always to the front in matters which portend to the wel- fare of his home town, and is always free with his purse and donates liberally of his time and work in assisting all public affairs, M. N. Koll, the Cass Lake land man, came to Bemidji yesterday afternoon and spent the afternoon and last night here. Mr. Koll drove out into the country from here this morning and looked over a large tract of land ‘which is involved in a deal which he is about to close. M. N. is a hustler; and he is gaining & reputation: in this section as a staunch friend of northern Minne- sota who puts his friendship to practical use.
