Entered n the Postoffice at Bemld)l, Minnesots, as second class matter. SUBSCRIPTION---$5.00 PER YEAR IN ADYANGE As the comet is to destroy the earth this year, what is the use of predicting a panic for 1912? Pork raisers, even more so now- a-days will find that there is more profit in a grunting pig than a squealing one. Minnesota newspapers should ad- vise their farmer friends to test their seed corn at once and see what per cent germination test they can get. Remember that though much of the corn of last year’s crop looks good the germ is dead and to plant it will be a waste of time and loss of money. Take no chances this year. CAMPAIGN OF EDUCATION. The Extension Division of the Minnesota Department of Agricul- ture regards the testing of seed corn of such vital importance to the farmers of Minnesota that in a few days it will distribute large posters showing by photographs how to test seed corn and giving full in- structions in regard to the work, so that each farmer may be enabled to test for himself. These posters will be sent to the banks through- out the state, to railroad stations, creameries, etc, to get the matter as far as possible before the people in abundant season for them to make early germination tests. The division regards the matter of test- ing seed as exceedingly important this year, and will give all the help it can to everybody who wishes it. Write for information, look for the posters, read the papers. The Division is availing itself of every possible channnel of getting this in- formation before the people.—Uni- versity Farm Press New: I BY THE WAY l The hustler may do to break the ground, but it takes the steady worker to make wages out of the truck garden. The man who thinks he is stand- ing for the right is generally the one who gets run over by the wagon. Too many people mistake hesita- tion for caution. Keep your fun and your work separate and neither will kill so much time. I YMORE | The business men of Nymore are looking forward with expeciation of increasing business when the saw- mills of the Crookston Lumber com- pany and the Bemidji Lumber com- pany begin the season’s sawing, which, it is understood, will be the first of next week. Quite 2 number of Nymore and Mill Park “men folks” are employed in one or the other of the two mills; and the hoarse whistle of the engines will be wel- comed asa forerunner of another season of hard work and good wages. “Where will the Soo grade strike Nymore?” isa question which is agitating Nymore folks; and there are several rumors of a disquiet- ing nature relative to the intention of the new road to run its line directly through the village. How- ever, the lastest information is to the effect that the Soo will enter Bemidji in a manner that will not disturb Nymore, as she now lies, to any great extent. The new village council of Nymore will meet on the 24th inst, when several matters of importance to the village will be considered. The new council and the old met jointly last week, at which time the new elective officers qualified, as follows: O. J. Tagley, president; Wallace Guy and Charles Schmidt, councilmen; Peter Wold, recorder; Willis N ye, treasurer and justice of the peace. The new elective officers, marshal, etc., will not be named until the regular meet- ing of the council to be held the first Monday in April. The county option meeting held in the fire hall Sunday afternoon was attended by a record-breaking crowd, the hall being filled to its capacity. Model 10, $1050 Buick The Buick Motor Car Company are the largest manufacturers of moror cars in the world. This year they will turn out 55,000 cars. Some people ask why the Buick cars always seem to win in the races they enter. From a mechanical standpoint this is easily explained. The Buick engine is constructed with valves in the head; the intake and exhaust valvees being 80 placed that the charge of the gas is taken directly over the piston and the ignition takes place in the center of the charge. This will give twenty per c:ntjmore power than it is possible to get out of other engines of the same cubic eontents with other valve construction. Powex means speed. It is also possible by this construction to get a more flexible engine and that is why you will see the Buick car driven about the streets as one would drive an electric automobile. It is possible to throttle tee engine down to a very low speed without killing the power, and it is not necessrry to change gears in order to bring your car down iu speed so it can be driven through traffic. The oiling system on the Buick machine is a feature in itself. It is not possible to make it feed more or feed less and anyone that can fill a bottle full of water can fill the oil reservoir and the working of the machinero will take care of the rest of it. The machine is slmphclty itself. : : To handle this car is so simple that a ten-year-old child can drive it. You stmply press a foot pedal and the car starts on.the motion; then by reversing the lever on the md‘e your high speed clutch comes into place, and there is no more to do—simdly sit and drive. By pulling out the high speed clutch your car stops. This is all the operation that is necessary. It will be on display on the show room of the Nnrihem Auto Company in the next day or two.
