Hon. William O’Neil of Cass Lake' superintendent of Chippewa logging, was a visitor in the city yesterday forenoon, being a guest at the home of Mr.and Mrs. J. M. Richards. The senator returned home yester- day noon. C. W. Rickard, secretary of the Grand Forks Lumber company, spent a part of Saturday in Bemidji, consulting with Charles Gardner, the general north-country manager for the Grand Forks company. Mr. Rickard left Saturday noon for Duluth on a business mission. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Snow and child left this morning for the “far west,” where they will here- after make their home. They will stop for a brief period at Deer Lodge, Montana, Spokane and North VYakima, and will finally settle at Seattle, for a few months at least. Mr. Snow will return to Bemidji, at the end of that time, to look after his interests here. M. S. Snow and wife, parents of Chester Snow, will leave in a few days to join Chester and his wife. August Doentz, the Duluth expert abstract man who is preparing a set of his abstracts for Beltrami county, came to the city yesterday after- noon from his home at Duluth. Mr. Doenitz spent part of today in Bemidji, leaving this afternoon for Crookston, where he has several experts working on the records of the land office, which will be used in tracing part of the abstract that will be furnished Beltrami county. Parker camps near Funkley, was an over-Sunday visitor in Bemidji. Mr. White will ship his horses to his home at the Marais, a farming district near Fisher, where he owns a splendid farm. M. N. Koll of Cass Lake and J. W. Mackey of Farris were among the delegates to the conservation congress at St. Paul who came to Bemidji Sunday morning on their way home. Messrs, Koll and Mackey went to Cass Lake and Farris, respectively, yesterday noon. W. R. Tait, the St. Paul land man who has landed interests at several points in this county, came to Bemidji Sunday morning and went out in the country to look over some land. W. R. states that there will undoubtedly be a considerable movement in northern Minnesota lands this year. John Wilson left this morning for Laporte and will visit the camps of Red River Lumber company until the latter part of this week. All of the Red River Lumber company’s contractors are finishing their season’s work, and it is expected that all near Laporte will have finished by the first of next week. F. S. Kalberg, editor and owner of the Clearwater Crystal of Bagley, came to Bemidji yesterday morn- ing from St. Paul, where he had been attending the conservation congress. Mrs. Kalberg came to Bemidji from Bagley yesterday noon and joined Mr. Kalberg in a visit with local friends for a few hours, they both returning to Bagley this morning, J. Ferdinand Peterson, better known among his Bemidji friends as “Jack,” came to the city Sunday worning from U. of M., and will spend his Easter week’s vacation at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Peterson, Jr. “Jack” is a member of the juuior class at the “U,” taking dentistry, and he is said to be doing very well; all of which is good news to his Bemidji friends. Henry Blake and Fred Hawkins, who constitute the logeing firm of Blake & Hawkins, passed through the city this morning on their way to their homes in Minneapolis. They have finished their logging for this winter, in the Rebedew lake country, east of Blackduck, where they cut some 8,700,000 feet of timber for the J. Neils Lumber com- pany, which will be driven down the Turtle river to the Cass lake, to be cut in the Neils mill at Cass Lake. Band Rehearsal. There will be a band rehearsa] tonight at the armory. Picquet and Hamilton, and it was one of the most delightful performances given at the opera house. “The work of the orchestra was good, the parts taken by Miss Zeller being exceptionally well appreciated. Glen Kershner performed on the flute, and Leon Ketchum on the ’cello, and both showed themselves artists at their respective instruments. Chicago, March 21.—The health com- mittee of the city council decided by a vote of 6 to 1-to abandon the pasteuri- zation of milk in Chicago. Alderman J. A.
