Blakely, the Farley logger, came to the city this morning and left this afternoon for Bagley to look after, his many logging operations near that place. Frank Carter, the merchant of Redby, spent today in the city on a business mission. He predicts a very prosperous season for the busi- ness men of Redby the coming year. He expects to return tomor- his family in this city. Mr. Witting has large business interests at Black- jsyduck. He is’' connected with the Northern Cedar and Lumber com- pany. Miss Edea Glenn, of Crookston, was in the city between trains today. Miss Glenn will. leave this evening for Kelliher where she will resume her duties as teacher after two week’s vacation, Louis Roy, the baseball enthusiast who caught for the Bemidji team for four straight seasons, when baseball enthusiasm was at its height in this city, came over from his home at visiting old friends. He was accom- panied by W. Rowley, also of Ebro. R. G. Brooks of Minneapolis, who is heavily interested in the Red River Lumber company, came to the city yesterday from his home and will spend several days here looking after his company’s exten-. sive timber holdings in this section. Daniel DeLury of Walker, one of the foremost lawyers of northern Minnesota, Sundayed in Bemidji. Mr. DeLury had intended going to Grand Rapids yesterday but when he ascertained that the Great North- ern east-bound passenger train was trip and remained a guest at the Hotel Markham until this morning when he returned to his home at Walker. Mrs. Vesta Howard was on the sick list the first of the week. Mrs. E. M. Castor was an over Sunday guest at the George South home. Mrs. George Estabrooks who has been quite ill is reported somewhat better. The Lincoln Study Club met at the home of Mrs. Lee French Mon- day evening. Rev. F. J. Barackman made his regular visit near Funkley Monday night where he conducts rehgxous services. Miss Katherine Laurie returned Saturday evening after a two weeks vacation spent with her parents at Brainerd. The Ladies of the Presbyterian church will give a supper in the church basement Thursday evening, January 20. Mrs. Robert Ingersoll and baby accompanied by her mother went up to their claim near Little Fork last Tuesday. Miss Clara Newcomb who is spending school -vacation with her parents near Hines, is nursing a felon on her thumb. Mrs. Smith and daughter Nel]ie, returned home Tuesday night from Cumberland, Wis., where they have been visiting a daughter of Mrs. Smith. The Ladies of the Maccabee lodge held a public installation of their new officers on last Friday evening. After the lodge work an interesting program was given. The little comedy, “The Smith Mystery” as given by the Misses Helen South, Mildred Hayes, and Nellie Oliver was especially enjoyed. At the close of the program a de- lightful social time was held during which alunch was served. A num- ber of guests were present and a very pleasant evening reported.
