e A ——— THE BEMIDJI DALLY PIONEER PUBLISHED EYERY AFTERNOON EXCEPT SUNDAY BY THE BEMIDJI PIONEER PUBLISHING GO. E. H. DENU. G. E. CARSON. A. G. RUTLEDGE, Editor: Mnterad In the Postoffico o SUBSCRIPTION---85.00 PER YEAR IN ADYANGE MERRY CHRISTMAS. The Pioneer will not publish a paper tomorrow—Christmas day— suspending the usual “grind” of a daily paper and allowing our em- ployes to properly enjoy the day, free from the cares of labor. We take this opportunity to wish all our patrons and subscribers a merry, merry Christmas, and may you have many returns of the day. Keep the good cheer spirit within you and do something to assist others to enjoy the season; and your happiness will increase tenfold. And again, merry Christmas to all, CHRISTMAS PLUMS. Be merry. Be friendly. Chide mildly. Give good gifts. Don’t be grouty. Love all, hate none. Forget your troubles. Remember dear ones. Make everybody happy. Wish all a Merry Christmas. ‘Tone up and be at your best. Wind up the year as well as you began. Don’t spend the day so it will bring regret, For goodness sake pay up your subscription. Forget your grudges and give a friendly grasp. Appear different, if it’s nothing more than to smile. Be grateful for what you have, and hopeful for what you might rea- sonably expect. If you enjoy a good fat dinner, don’t forget the many who will sit around a scanty table. In your home gatherings let some- one read the “Events of the Year,” as they have been chronicled in the Pioneer, then recommend it to your neighbors and send it to your friends. But our dish is full of Christmas plums, so now partake until New Year’s comes, and we wish our read- ers a merry time, in fact, of all others, the most sublime; be good, be true, and be be ye cheery, and may your Christmas be right merry, LET'S GET TOGETHER. The republican papers of the state, with two or three exceptions; are giving Governor Eberhart the support that he is entitled to in all his undertakings. The most notable exceptions are the St. Cloud Journal: Press and the Princeton Union. Both of these papers apparently have candidates of their own. The Journal-Press favors Ripley Brower and the Union is for “Bob” Dunn, undoubtedly. This condition no doubt accounts for the numerous crticisms which these publications make on every move made by the governor. Be good, for once, boys; and let’s see if we cannot elect a republican governor next fall, Governor Eberhart may not be perfect, and no doubt he has made mistakes and will continue to make them. However, none of his errors were glaring mistakes, nor were they of such a nature but that they can be easily overlooked; and now is the one opportunity to pull together in a united manner. HOCH DER KAISER IS SPREADING. The “Hoch der Kaiser” campaign for state treasurer is spreading like wildfire over ‘the state. The north- ern Minnesota newspapers are en- thusiastic in their support of the Bagley banker for the republican nomination for state treasurer, and the southern Minnesota and twin city papers are rapidly falling into line. Northern Minnesota is en- titled to at least one state office, and by presenting a candidate who fills every requirement of the office sought, as to ability, experienoe and party fealty, its claims should, and no doubt they will, be recognized. Exclusive to the Last. An Instance of exclusiveness maln tained under difficulties is reported from the ladies’ cabin of an Atlantie liner. All were sick except one lady and a cat, which wandered uneasily sbout. The lady ventured to stroks the cat, remarking, “Poor pussy.” Th¢ eat was inclined to respond and elevat ed its tail in token of good will, whez from a neighboring berth came i choking tones the words, “Excuse me that is a private cat[”—Argonaut.
