Miss Alice Mills is-substituting in the B. P. S. for Miss Hanson, who was called away by the serious illness of her mother. Mrs. T. E. Rider, wife of the Shevlin. banker, spent yesterday in the city, Christmas shopping. :She returned home in the afternoon. Ike Black went to Blackduck last evening in the interest of the Kelley-How-Thomson Hardware company of Duluth, which he repre- sents “on the road.” Mrs. A. E. Witting has returned, after a ten weeks’ visit in the west. While away Mrs. Witting took in the A. Y. P. E,, at Seattle, and also visited at various points in Cali- fornia, - The members of the Swedish Luth- entertainment in the Odd Fellow’s hall, New Year’s eve, and a basket social. Moore & Company, went to Hines last evening to visit the camps of the company at that place. Mr. Stanland stated that he intended to visit the camps at Northome tomorrow afternoon and return to Bemidji tomorrow night. “Pretty busy, these days,” isthe comment of J. K., when asked as to what is “doing.” Charles Gardner, general north- country manager for the Grand Forks Lumber company, returned to the city last evening from a trip down the south line of the M. & I. Railway, where he had beeen yester- day on a business trip. The north-bound morning M. & I. passenger train arrived at 6:27 this morning, being neéarly two hours “to the bad” in getting north- ward out of St. Paul last evening, and little of the time was made up between the twin cities and Bemidji.
