Otto Peterson, who looks after the northern Minnesota interests of the L. K. Deal Lumber company of Des Moines, Iowa, left his local office yesterday afternoon for a brief business tr'p to Puposky. Mrs. F. O. Sibley of Island Lake, wife of County Commissioner F. O. Sibley, accompanied by her daugh- ter, shopped in Bemidji all day yes- terday and returned home on the 4 o’clock train in the afternoon. Mrs. Whitney was former- ly Miss Addie Nelson of Ada and has many friends in Bemidji. Miss Janie will return next Monday even- ing. All Sunday papers Saturday after- noon and Sunday morning at Peter- son’s. William Betts, the Crookston Lumber company’s walking-boss at Fowlds, came down this morning on the company’s “logger” and left this noon for the home of his brother, Theodore, at Grand Rapids, where his father and mother from Fredericktown, New Brunswick, are now visiting. “Billy” will be gone several days. E. L. Oberg, editor of that bright little weekly, the Backduck American, was among the north-country arrivals on this morning’s M. & L. train who came down to transact business in Bemidji. Mr. Oberg had a number of county warrants, which he has been holding for several years, and went to the county treasurer’s office in the court house to get the “‘good hard cash.” Little Falls Miss Ida Waller, who so efficiently filled the position of trimmer with the Conger millinery establishment last season, arrived in the city Mon- day night, Mrs. Conger having secured her services for this season. Miss Waller enjoyed a summer vaca- tion in Spring Valley, Wis., but a good share of her “time was spent in the wholesale houses in the cities, familiarizing herself with the new modes in headgear. Bliler, the county surveyor of Beltrami county, returned to his home in this city this morning from a several days’ surveying trip into the Shotley country, northwest of Kelliher. Mr. Bliler reports that corn is fourteen feet high in the Town of Shotley. Talk about the soil of Beltrami county! Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Shelland of Ada arrived in Bemidji last evening from International Falls, where they had been visiting his sister, Miss Anna Shelland, who is county superintendent of schools of Koochi- ching county. They visited today in the city and departed this after- non for their home at Ada. Assistant Attorney-General Lyndon A. Smith departed last night for the Capital city after coming to Bemidji in order to wit- ness the signing of the testimony in the hearing of charges against four Beltrami county officials, which was done yesterday. Mr. Smith started before returning to St. Paul that it would probably be October 1st. before Governor Johnson would personally hear the charges, owing to the pressure of official business, the state fair, etc. Reverand T. S. morning to attend to some church work there. Rev. Kolste will hold services tomorrow at Laporte, return- ing to Bemidji about the middle of next week. J. LaMoure, Jr., a prominent res- ident of North Dakota who lives at Pembina, accompanied by his two children, departed last night for Pembina after enjoyinga brief outing at his summer home near Hacken- sack, Mr. LaMoure came up from Hackensack last evening.
