G. Larsen, who has charge of the local Episcopal congregation, returned last night from a visit to McIntosh, Fosston and Meautor, where he had been to look after some Episcopalian matters. He will be “in harness” at the Episcopal services tomorrow, as usual. J. C. D., arrived in the city yesterday evening and was registered as a guest at the Hotel Markham. Miss O’Connell of Duluth is a guest of Miss Donna Lycan, at the Hotel Markham. Miss Lycan and Miss O’Connell were “fellow” stu- dents at the Minnesota “U.” J. Bisiar, the music man, went to Tenstrike last evening on a business trip. He spent severalhours at the Strike,” returning to Bemidji on the south-bound M. & I. night train. D. D. Miller, junior member of the T. J. Miller Insurance Agency, went to Blackduck last evening on a business mission for his firm. Dwight has a fine business at the “Duck.” Miss Beaulah Brown of St. Paul, cousin of M. J. Brown, and Miss Edna Brown of Minneapolis, sister of Mr. Brown, returned this morning to their homes, after a very pleasant visit in Bemidji. T. R. Symons, loca‘l agent for the Minneapolis Brewing company, spent yesterday at Laporte, inter- viewing local dealers in “wet goods,” returning to Bemidji on the evening train. P. G. Swanson of Owatonna, an employe at the State School located at that place, came to the city last evening, over the M. & I. railway. He was accompanied by Eliza Clark, also of Owatonna. Harry Mills, roadmaster for the M. & I. Railway company, went to Kelliher last evening on an official trip of inspection over the line to that point, returning to Bemidji this morning. Henry Logan of Grand Rapids (whom nearly eveyone knows best as “Hank”) spent part of yesterday in the city and left on the afternoon G. N. train for Crookston, where he is employed to solicit for the ‘Benedictine Sisters’ line of hospitals, of which the St. Anthony hospital of this city is one. Mr. and Mrs. Whitelow and Miss Stearns of Minneapolis, who have been the guests of Mrs. F. Doud, at Diamond Point, departed this morn- ing for their homes in the “Mill City.” Mrs. Baley of Erskine and Miss Fishbek of Fosston, who have also been visiting with Mrs. Doud, left for their homes yesterday after- noon. L. B. Jones of Detroit, Minn., is in the city, and is visiting with his brother, who is “subbing” as chef at the Hotel Markham for Oscar Christensen, who is taking a two weeks’ vacation and will visit his claim near Middle River, in eastern Marshall county. Mr. Jones has been running a hotel at Detroit, but he sold the hostelry last week. Fred Baumgardner, the long- distance lineman for the Northwest- ern Telephone Exchange company, left iast evening to look over the long-distance wites of the telephone company between Blackduck and Tenstrike for the purpose of dis- covering just where the break was that caused a temporary suspension of business on the Blackduck-Be- midji line, W. H. Browning came to the city last evening from a trip southward over the M. & L railway in the in- terest of the Winston-Harper-Fischer company, and will probably remain in the city over Sunday, as “Bill,” like all other traveling men who “make” this vicinity, appreciates the efficiency of the service at the Hotel Markham, as commercial travelers’ haven of rest. . Burke, proprietor of the Star Theater, and his stage -manager, Albert Valliere, returned last evening from Portage lake, where they enjoyed two days of bass fishing. They brought home with them a fine bunch of big, fat black bass, which they caught at Portage. , Mrs. Jackson, wife of Dr. Jacksan of Kansas City, and Miss Genevieve Ward, also of Kansas City, came in this morning from Lake Plaritaghet, with Col. L, Brunelle and - child of Red Lake Falls came to the city yesterday morning from Blackduck, having-been visiting with the family of J. A. Bray at the “Duck.” They were accompanied by Madely Bray, who remained here during the day and returned to her home in the evening. When Father O’'Dwyer left Ireland to take up his work in America, he promised his parents that he would visit them, at’the old home in Kilkenny, at least once every twoyears, and he has faithfully kept the promise.
