Dunn, whom everybody who knows him likes to call “Bob” pays the Pioneer and Bemidji the follow- ing handsome compliment: “That Bemidji is a bustling, grow- ing city is evidencel bya hand- somely illustrated supplement in magazine form issued by the Pioneer of that city. The supplement is a credit to the Pioneer and is in- dicative of the rapid growth of the capitol of Beltrami county. In 1897, we believe, at Detroit, the county seat of Becker county, the writer, who was then state audi- tor, sold several tracts of land, which are now included in the city of Be- midji, at from $20 to $30 per acre, to Harris Richardson of St. Paul. ““At that time Beltrami county was -unorganized and only a few log cabins marked the site of the pre- sent prosperous city of Bemidji. That was before the snort of the iron horse disturbed the denizens of the forest wilderness in that vicinity. Today Bemidji is a railroad center second only to Crookston in north- western Minnesota, and is an im- portant mercantile and manufactur- ing distributing point. As a summer resort it offers many attractions to tourists, as the city is located on beautiful Lake Bemidji.” HEINRICH CONREID 1S DEAD Famous Musical Director Expires in the Austrian Tyrol. Railroad Company Is Barred From Ownership of Parallel Roads and Also Declares lllegal and Unwar- ranted the Ownership of Certain Coal Mines by That Company. Columbus, 0., April 26.—The circuit court of Frankiin county has handed down a dceree ousting the Hocking Valley railroad from control, through the J. P t Morgan syndicate, of the Zanesville and Western, the To- ledo and Ohio Central and the Kana- wha and Michigan railroads. The railroad was also, by the decision, ousted from its control of the Sunday Creck Coal company, the Sunday Creek company, the Continental com- pany and the Buckeye Coal and Rail- company. The decision. is a one and is given under the Ohio anti-trust law. The decision was given in the suit of the attorney gen- eral, in the name of the state, against the Hocking Valley Railway company, which was prosecuted to a successful end by Attorney General Denman. The opinion of the circuit court was written by Judge A. I Alred. It declares that the ownership by the Hocking Valley railway of the stocK| of the coal companies—through which the coal situation in all the Hocking and Sunday Creek valleys is con- trolled—is plainly illegal and unwar- ranted. - The court also holds that it is un- lawful for the Hocking Valley to con- trol the Toledo and Ohio Central, Kanawha and DMichigan and Zanes- ville and Western roads, which are parallel and competing lines. ‘The court stated that the testimony did not seem to warrant an ousting of the Hocking Valley railway from its charter. A “SCAPEGOAT OF POLITICS” Brandenburg Declares He [s the “Dreyfus of America.” _ San Francisco, April 26.—2Broughton Brandenberg, novelist and magazine writer, who was arrested here as a fugitive fiom justice in New York on a charge of grand larceny in connec- tion with a polltical article claimed to have heen written by the late Gro- ver Cleveland, declares that he is the “Dreyfus of America” and has heen made the ‘s oat of politi Shortl THE CAUSE OF GOLDS Good Advice Regarding the Prevention of Coughs and Colds. If people would only properly fortify and strengthen their system, about 98 per cent of coughs, colds, and pneumonia might be avoided. These troubles are simply the result of weakness, which produces a catarrhal condition of the mucous membrane, which is as an internal skin of the body. When the skin is weakened it becomes infected with .germs which are carried through the system by the blood. These parasites attack and break these delicate tissues and set up a soreness which produce what is in reality an external scrofula. The only thing that will cure coughs and colds and prevent pneumonia is a medication which is absorbed and carried by the blood so that the deceased membrane is disinfected, cleaned, soothed and healed. We have a remedy which we honestly believe infailable and un- surpassable for the prevention and cure of coaghs, coldsand all ca- tarrhal conditions. It is the pre- scpription of a famous physician, who has an enviable reputation of 30 years of cures gained through the use of this medicine. We prom- ise to either effect a cure in every case or make no charge for the medicine. We urge everybody in Bemidji who has need of such a medicine to try Rexall Mucu- Tone. It stands to reason that we could not afford to make such state- ments and give our personal guar- tee to this remedy if we were not absolutely positive that we could substantiate our claim in every particular, and we see no reason why anyone should hesitate to accept our offer and try it. We have two sizes of Rexall Mucu-Tone. Prices 50c and $1.00. Sometimes a 50c bottle is sufficient for a cure. As a general thing, the most chronic case is cured with an average of three large bottles. The forgery charge was dropped and Bran- denberg was released on $1,500 bail to appear Feb. 1 for trial on the other charge. He failed to appear when the case was called and the police of the entire country have been searching for him ever since. ‘When Brandenberg was taken into custody his eight-year-old stepson, whose' last name is Cabanne, was with him.
