The Bemidji fire department trans- acted much business ot importance at their regular meeting in the city hall last evening, at which Chief Geil and a large number of the mem- bers were present. A committee was appointed to answer, through the columns of the Pioneer, Alderman L. F. Johnson’s pertinent. question asto why the fire- engine had not been used at the burning of James Price’s home on Tenth street a few weeks ago. A committee was also appointed to draw up some new by-laws for the department and an application for membership was referred to the proper committee. ‘Two of the city, aldermen were present with the firemen. The feature of the evening was the presentation of two wedding presents to members of the depart- ment. - Although John Goodman has been married for some time, the “boys” wished to give their treasurer a “‘wedding” present asa token of their esteem, so a hand- some oak rocker was bestowed on him. Mr. Goodman demonstrated his athletic training by forcing the department to use eight men to seat him in the new chair. ~ Robert Rus- gell, a newly-married fire lad, was presented with a fine enameled clock and a shelf to support it. The shelf was engraved with the initials, “R.R.” After the business was disposed of an excelleat Tunch was urved ) “W ashington, March 22, 1909. - “Iam in receipt of the special edition of the Pioneer and to my mind a nicer boom of any city or surrounding country has never been written.
