Cameron of this city, who is acting as court reporter to Judge Woods of Minneapolis, arrived 1n Bemidji last night and will visit af his home during the Christmas season.” J. R. Blasdell of this city, who is constructing a lath and shingle mill at Shooks Spur, returned to the ““Spur” last evening after being com- pelled to remain at home for two weeks on account of illness. Miss Donaldson, one of the teachers in the Bemidji public schools, and her mother went to Northome last evening on the M. & 1. passenger train to spend the holi- days with Mrs. Donaldson’s daugh- ter, Mrs. C. L. Ward of Northome. Real ““Lively” Present. A live chicken, in the shape of a Christmas gift, provoked great mirth yesterday afternoon in the Turtle River schools, according to Misses Anna Mills and Mildred Woodruff, two Bemidji girls teaching in the schools at -Turtle River, and who returned to the city this morn- ing for the holidays. The ladies report that yesterday afternoon one of Miss Mills’ pupils slipped a live hen into the school room. The chicken had a .card attached to its legs wishing Miss Mills a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. “Biddie” furnished considerable amusement for the pupils but was killed this morning and will have a place on the Mills’ table tomor- TOW. Mr., Farnham is reported as being on the sick list. e Messrs. Edward Soland and H. Frodahl went to Bemidji on business Saturday. Mrs. Timms and Paula Haavan were shopping in Bemidji one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Duffy Dahl were visiting in Bemidji “‘between trains” last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Mathew.Christenson were made happy by the arrivai of a caby boy last Friday. Misses Paula Haavan and Anna West left for their respective homes in McIntosh and Wadena. Miss Ellen Umbuland returned from Gaygly, Minn., where she has been teach for the past three months. Miss Bertha Krueger left Dodge Center, Minn. last Saturday, after having closed 2 term of sohool in this vicinity. Miss Geneva Watkins returned last Monday from Grand Forks, N. D., where she has been visiting for the past three months. Miss Laura Nykrum closed a very successful term of school last Friday and left for her home at Ulen, Minn., where she will spend she holidays. Paposky. Dec. 23. A. E. Smith of Bemiji came up Monday on business. Mrs. Freeman made a business trip to Bemidji Saturday. The entertainment and Christmas tree will be held Thursday evening, Dec. 24th. A. T. Wheelock of Bemidji was transacting business in Pupusky last Thursday. W. B. Stewart, county superinten- dent, visited the schools at Puposky and Buena Vista Thursday. O. J. Opsahl Finishing Logging Representative J. J. Opsahl has about finished the logging operations which he has been. conducting, in the country north of Bemidji, since | the season opened this winter. Mr. Opsahl has been conducting five camps, one being located at Bridgie, one at Foy, one at the location of the power dam on the Mississippi river east of Bemidji, one near Turtle River, and one at the head of Lake Bemidji. Mr. Opsahl. who came to the city this morning, states that his men will have completed cutting an skidding the timber by January 1st, and that all that will remain there- after will be to haul the cut. Mr. Opsahl will remain in the city until after Christmas and will com- plete his personal supervision of the operations next week, when he will depart for St. Paul to take his seat in the legislature as the representa- tive of this (the sixty-first) legisla- tive district. a Post Office Hours Christmas Day. | The public is hereby rotified that the front door of the Bemidji post Loffice will be open at the usual hours Christmas day.
