THE BEMIDJI DAILY PIONEER PUBLISHED NVERY AFTHRNOON, BEMIDJI PIONEER PUBLISHING CO. By CLYDE J."PRYOR. Entered in the postoffice at Bemidii. Minn., a8 second class matter. USRSV UUUUUURUIUSUVUVIVEVPVPVRN SUBSCRIPTION---$5.00 PER ANNUM —_— BIG STRIKE THREATENED Window Glass Fcctories Say They Cannot Increase Wages. Hartford City, Ind., Dec. )J—Indi- oatlons now point to either a capitu- Jatlon on the part of the National Window Glass Workers’ association or one of the biggest strikes known to the window glass trade for years. 'Bhe going into effect of the new wage scale has been postponed from Dec. 19 to Dec. 22. At Columbus, O, all the window glass manufacturers in the country will meet to take action on the scale, So far as known only two cogcerns have signified their inten- tion of paying the new scale. Manu- facturers say they have many orders on thelir books at prices now prevail- ing which the new scale would cause them to lose thousands of dollars on. ‘Apparently the solution is the organ- zation of all the hand operated fac- tories and give the workers an in- crease in wages. It is generally agreed that wages are too low, but on the other hand it is sald that the sell- ing prices will not permit an increase at this time. WATER SUPPLY NOW NORMAL Predioted Paper Famine Will Not Materialize. ‘Appleton, Wis., Dec. '.d.—The pre- dicted paper famine, which it was thought would result from the long dry spell, will not materialize, as the mills now have all the water they can use. For the first time in over six months the Neenah and Menasha company, which controls the flow of water from Lake Winnebago into the Fox river, has notified the mill owners that they may have the full 100 per cent of the For Sale, Cheap. Because of the drought of the late summer and fall the water went down until there was not enough in the river to turn a single wheel. In some places the river had become dry and the fish in the river above Appleton died by the millions. NEW AEROPLANIST RECORD Wilbur Wright Remains in Air Nearly Two Hours. Lemans, France, Dec. ,A.—Wilbur ‘Wright, the American aeroplanist of Dayton, O., established a new world’s record for heavier than air machines while trylng for the Michelin cup, re- maining in the air 1 hour, 53 minutes and 59 seconds. The best previous record is 1 hour, 31 minutes and 51 seconds, which Mr. Wright made on Sept. 21. The aeronaut attained an average height of twenty-four feet and the dis- tance was officlally measured as 61% miles, which does not include the wide sweeps and turns made during the flight. He descended only be- cause the oil feeder got out of order.
