STATE FORESTRY BOARD HAS AGGEPTED AN OFFER The Pine Tree Lumber Company Con- ditionally Donates Park Land to the State. St. Paul, Minn, Dec. 16.—The state forestry board, in [special ses- sion at the new capitol today, accepted an offer of the Pine Tree Lumber company, a We‘yerheauser subsidary concern, to donate to the state 3,300 acres of Itasca Park land with all timber thereon, which is not over eight inches—the gift to be timbet over eight inches in diameter retained by the company be exempted from taxation for 10 years. The taxes, it is stated, would not exceed $10,000; the land and small timber offered are worth about $33,000. The matter of exempting the com- pany_from taxation for its stand- ing timber on the tract in quest\on, | will probably be provided for in a spemal law to be presented for enactment at the coming legislative sessior. The board accepted the resigna- tion of R. C. Arnold as superintend- ent of Itasca park, to take effect Jan. 4, and elected in his place John Heinzelman.” A number of recommendations were drawn for consideration of the coming legisla- ture. These included: An appropriation of $10,000 per year fot improvement of Itasca Park. An appropriation of $3,500 per year and the supplying in addition of better facilities, for the state for- estry school. An appropriation of $10,000 for the board to invest in buying desir- able timber reserve tracts, An appropriation of $500 for the repair of Douglas lodge, Itasca Park. An appropriation of $3,000 for the care and establishment of a game preserve at Burntside Park, St Louis county. An amendment to the present law to permit the board to use part of the income from Itasca Park. FOUND —Some money. - Owner can have same by calling on Prof, Thornton at the High School building. The famous grand march will be given at the Collseum roller skating rink Saturday evening, and all skaters are invited to participate. Mgr. G. V. Adams and.-Miss Pan- chot will lead the march. St. Paul, Dec. 17—By the explosion | ' of o gas tank in a day coach on train No. 4, southbound Northern Pacific passenger train, two cars were de- stroyed and the train was delayed two hours in reaching St. Paul. The ex- plosion occurred at 5 o’clock in the morning as the train was pulling out of St. Cloud. A day coach was burned to the trucks, not any of the woodwork te- maining. A tourist sleeper was about half destroyed before the fire depart- ment succeeded In extinguishing the flames.
