Second row, sitting—Ray Dennis, Erton Geil, Harvey Woodard, Robert Collard, John Benner, ~Jack” Peterson. : The above running team of the Bemidji Fre Department, which was at its best in 1901, was successful in winning championship banners in Bemidji, Cass Lake and Park Rapids. The members of the team were all home boys and Bemidji was justly proud of them. Many of them are still members of the department and Bdmidji can now produce a running team on short notice second to none in northern Minnesota. Later, when some of the members left the city, the team was added to and again won at Blackduck and Warren. Earl Geil was chief and first captain of the running team. the best athletes in northern Minnesota. He is still the chief and has piloted the boys through many successful races. Geil, though well along in years, is one of in ample time to finish. The farmers in the vicinity of Bemidji are especially urged to bring any livestock which they may want to sell, or in fact any article which they wish to dispose of. Bailey. PARDELL IS REARRESTED AND TAKEN TO RAPIDS Was Released from Beltrami County Jail, Only to Again Fall Into Duress. Marti, alias D. E. Pardell, alias D. W. Watson, and of several other names, was released from the local county jail yesterday afternoon and was immediately re-arrested by the deputy sheriff of Itasca county, from Grand Rapids. Marti, under the name of Pardell, had just completed the serving of 60 days for jumping a board-bill in this city and was wanted at Grand Rapids on the same charge. Deputy Sheriff Harry had warrants for his arrest, both under the name of Wat- son and of Marti. Marti is wanted also at Inter- national Falls and at the Hotel Lennox in Duluth on the same charge. It will probably be a long time before Marti gams his freedom again, Marti is the man who_ was around here about two months ago with a fake time-table scheme, whereby a business man could have his adver- tisement printed on a new time table by paying a few dollars. In Police Court. The city authorities are getting the undesirable characters pretty well weeded out of the city. There were two cases in police- court this morning before Judge Simons. Tom Hanson ‘was charged with vagrancy and was fined $10 and costs or 20 days in jail. In default of payment he was com- mitted to the county jail. Leander Swanson was arrested on the same charge, and was given the same sen- tence by Judge Simons. He was also committed to the county jail. Committee Meeting Friday Evening. A meeting of the committees in charge of the forthcoming Fourth of July celebration will be held at the council chambers, in the city hall, Friday evening, at 8 o’clock. All those who know themselves to be on these committees should be on hand, early, as there is much of importance to do. J. P. POGUE, President. Evangelistic Services. The committee on premanent organization recommended that the temporary organization be made permanent. This was unanimously adopted. The name of George E. Carson was then presented to the convention as chairman of the countv central committee, and upon motion the secretary was authorized to cast a ballot for Mr. Carson as chairman. Mr. Carson, in a few appropriate words, thanked the convention for the honor bestowed upon him and assured them that he would work for the interests of the republican party and its candidates. The committee appointed to name delegates to attend the state convention at St. Paul July 1, then made the following report, which was accepted. The delegates are as follows: A. The resolutions are as follows: That we recognize in Jacob F. Jacobson a man of the common people; one whose integrity and ability as a statesman have been Henry proven by a long and untirnished public career, We believe that as chief executive of this state he will fearlessly cham- pion the rights of the people and curb the aggressions of capital, and it is the sense of this convention that the delegates here chosen to attend the state convention cast their votes for Jacob F. Jacobson and use every honorable means to secure his nomination for Governor of Minnesota. Be it resolved, by the Republicans of Beltrami county in convention assembled this 25th day of June, 1908: That we approve the platform adopted by our party at the recent National Convention held in the City of Chicago, and pledge pur- selves unqualifiedly to the prmclp]es therein set forth. That we heartily indorse the action of our party at said conven- tion in nominating William H. Taft for president and James S. Sherman for vice-president of the United States, and pledge our support to the candidates so chosen. We, do most heartily endorse | the policy of Hon. Halvor Steen- | erson, congressman trom this, the Ninth District, and believe that in him we have an able and -repre- sentative champion for the best interests of the county and dis- trict, we further believe and affirm, Thatin Hon.
