Gra’y, the Blackduck cruiser, spent yesterday in the city and returned last evening to his home. Mr. Gray, besides being a very good man in “the timber,” is also a mem- ber in good standing of the Black- duck Handcar Club, and one of the best of the good fellows up the north line. H. N. Harding, cashier of the First National Bank of Cass Lake, came over from the “Lake” yester- day afternoon, and left last evening for Kelliher, where he will visit over Sunday with his son, Glenn Harding, who is employed in the lumbering camps of the Crookston Lumber company. County Commissioner George Gunderson left last evening for his home at Inez postoffice, northwest of Blackduck, having been in the city since Tuesday morning attending tbe annual meeting of the county board. The meeting was beginning to be a little too extended for the Inez member. Chester McCusick is able to be about again, after having been an inmate of St. Anthony’s hospital in this city, where he has been “laid up” with a damaged leg. Mr. Mec- Cusick is still lame, and does not walk without the aid of a cane, but expects to be as “chipper” as ever, in a few days. Rev. Frank Higgins, the “Lum- berjack Sky Pilot,” hale and hearty, came in last evening from the camps of the Northland Pine com- pany, east of Walker. He spent last night and this forenoon in this city and left this noon to visit the camps at Schley and Deer River. He is kept very busy this winter, George Coppersmith, conductor on the Brainerd-International Falls M. & I. passenger run, was com- pelled to abandon his regular trip last evening, on account of illness. Vye, the logger, returned this morning from his camps near Kelliher, where he is getting out considerable timber this winter. Mrs. W. H. Tobben, Mrs. H. W. Warren and Miss Eugene Tobben of Bena came over from their homes last night and spent today in the tcity. S. C. Johnson, Crookston feed man, came oyer from the Crookston last night for the purpose of inter- viewing local merchantsin his line of business. Louis Crombie, one of the “head pushes” of the Wilcox Lumber com- pany” came down this morning from Mizpah, where the Wilcox company is doing some logging. W. A.Gould and J. M. Richards, of the Bemidji Lumber company, returned this morning from a visit to some of the logging camps of the company along the north line ot the M. & I railway. C. C. Hanson, the Walker insur- ance man, passed through the city this morning on his way to Walker from a business trip to International Falls. He reports business as being very good in his line. G. E. Crocker returned this morn- ing from a visit to the logging camps of the Grand Forks Lumber com- pany near Blackduck. Mr. Crocker says that logging operations are pro- gressing very satisfactorily. Ike-Black, the local commercial traveler who represents the Kelley- How-Thomson Hardware company of Duluth, returned this morning from a business trip to Baudette, in the interest of his company. B. W. Lakin, superintendent of logging for the Crookston Lumber company, returned this morning from an inspection trip to some ot the company’s camps in the north country along the line of the M. & I. John Halouptzok, the general merchant of Big Falls, had the misfortune to seyerely injure his shoulder while he was going to the M. & I. depot from his home at Big| - Falls this morning. He came to this city and is receiving medical |- treatment here today for an injured shoulder. Mrs. A. Hagberg returned this morning from Northome, where she has been for several days at the bedside of Mrs. Edward Feldmann, her sister-in-law, who has been very ill. Mrs. Feldmann is now better. Guy A. Aubol, deputy internal revenue collector for this portion of the district of Minnesota, came over from his home at Crookston last night. St. Paul, Jan. 11.—William Fisher, aged forty-three, while driving his coal wagon across the Milwaukee tracks was struck by a passenger train and received injuries that proved fatal at the city hospital a few hours later. John Olton, aged thirty-five, employed in the Great Northern shops, was struck by a westbound train on the Northern Pacific tracks and in- stantly killed. Aged Recluse Murdered. New Ulm, Minn, Jan. 11.—Christ Walther, an aged recluse living in & small shack in the center of the town, was found dead.
